Gina's Mexican Cafe
Very popular spot, and very busy. We had a short wait and were seated fairly quickly. Many others after us had to wait a while, and quickly congested the waiting area.All the staff were quick. The food was fairly quick, given it was a full restaurant. We went during the Nanaimo Dine Out promotion, and was really good value.Next time, I'd plan to be early and get a table by a window.It's in an old house on top of a hill. The main parking is a Robins parkade across the street. There is a little street parking, but not much.

The 3 of us ate here last night and overall it was a good experience. I'd definitely go back to try again or get take out. We got 2x Navajo plates and I got the Frisco Kid. Flavor was really good aside from the rice which was a bit bland but I think that's how it's supposed to be. I have to say that the blended margaritas were SERIOUSLY below par though which was shocking considering everything else seems to be pretty good quality. The lime one just tasted really watery and we couldn't taste any tequila. It was a Saturday night and really busy so we waited longer than usual for our food, probably around 40 mins, which was ok because the place is cute and you can pass the time if you have company, but our server didn't come by to check on our empty drinks. We only had to wait about 15 mins for a table when we arrived though so that was reasonable. Would have rated a 4 if the service was a bit better.

Had a great family lunch at this cute restaurant. Service was good, prices reasonable and portions were big compared to other places. They were really flexible with one of our picky eaters, which was really nice. There was a lot of thought put into the decor and ambiance. Will definitely go back again!

Gina's was busy but we were seated quickly, service was quick and food was delicious!I had 1/2 order of Chicken Chipotle with salad instead of beans and corn....so good! It's my favorite thing on the menu.We had the Chocolate Truffle Cake, split 3 ways...that is the best Chocolate dessert I've ever had...EVER. you need to try it...rich smooth chocolate taste. Thanks!

This is not fine dining but just really tasty food served by kind people in a charming little restaurant. We were served salsa and chips to start. The sLsa was fresh and had a delicious flavour and just the right amount of heat. I had a black bean soup as a starter. It was different from other black bean soups that I have had (it tasted more like a vegetable soup) but it was really really good! The chimichunga was served with refried beans and corn and the same salsa. We especially appreciated being allowed to have our dog with us on the patio! Thank you.

Overall the place, the vibe and the restaurant’s design were on point. I had the fish tacos and my friend the adobe chicken and they were almost ok. Both dishes came with rice and we felt very disappointed though the rice tasted like Asian food from a Knorr rice bag. Corn was very sweetened. Guacamole wasn’t good. I don’t think this is an authentic true Mexican cuisine/restaurant. We do not recommend it if you are looking for real or authentic Mexican flavours. Also the waitress forgot to bring us cutlery once she brought the dishes so we had to remind her. Service was poor.

A great Mexican restaurant to eat at if you’re visiting from out of town or a local. The food is very good, the atmosphere is fun and staff is good. My only issue would be prices; plates are expensive but meals are quite large. 30-40$ person includes; a drink with the meal and tip; didn’t order any appetizers*. Highly recommend if you enjoy Mexican*

Great flavour from 40 years ago. Gina's food has not changed and stands as one of Nanaimo's very few original independent restaurants. In a town where character" is a word never used to describe it...thank God there is Gina's."

Loved the food fast delivery but the restaurant is very small so if you get sat next to very load people really the experience terrible. There is only like a foot is space between guess but the food is so amazing I can over look it just because other people made my experience bad. But I am more tempted to order food out then sit down. Salsa is amazing it does have cilantro in it so be warned soap people. The corn and rice side to almost every dish is well flavoured. Definitely get chipotle it’s definitely made in-house and mixes so well with the flavours.

First time to Gina’s Mexican Cafe, I’ve heard raving reviews from friends. Decided to stop in & grab dinner.I must say what a great choice, the atmosphere was very welcoming (seating is a little tight which could be better addressed) and truly reminded me of being back in Mexico. The food was spectacular & spot on!!I have a anaphylaxis raw tomatoe allergy and the staff tended to this allergy well under circumstances fresh tomatoes are a widely used item.If your looking for a quaint, new experience with great food & flavours I highly recommend you go here.
