Boldt Castle & Boldt Yacht House

Must! Must! Must! I'm considering a special trip just to repeat this tour. I almost never repeat places. Unfortunately, I didn't do the audio portion, but I still enjoyed it immensely. The story is heartwarming. The contrast between the restored lower floors and vandalized upper floors is illuminating. I had a weird experience in that my US debit card didn't work because their device didn't accept PINs, so bring cash or another card.

This is a beautiful castle with a very sad story. I visited this place few times in the past. What a beautiful island! While you walk around the Heart of the Island, you can see how much effort they put in this castle/museum. This is a place that I always want to go back to visit again!

We visited Boldt Castle as a part of the 5 hour cruise. The cruise stops over here for 2 hours to see the castle. It was a bit of a wait to clear US immigration. Once you are inside, it's quite spectacular to see all the views, architecture, and the way the castle is furnished. It's quite a sad history behind the castle, and some parts are left unfinished. 2 hours minus the time for immigration was not enough time to completely see everything but just right. Would have loved to spend more time. If you have a sweet tooth, don't miss the little ice cream store there. They serve amazing ice cream. The quality & quantity are out of this world.

It's amazing to see the architecture and the lay out pf this giant castle.. interesting story to go through.

Great castle, great story, great experience! Only wish we had arrived earlier as we only had about an hour to explore since it was the end of the day. I would have loved to have more time to really take in the views and learn the history.

SUCH a cool trip ...ykno, if you're into the st.lawrence and castles and history. Wife and I had a blast exploring the castle grounds on our own and taking in the beautiful river scenery.

Beautiful place to visit in the Thousands Island region of the St. Lawrence River. The area can be extremely busy in the summer season. Beautiful architecture you just don't see many other places in this country. Much more accessible place to visit if you have access to a boat but there are tour boats as well.

In the 1970’s, my family visited Boldt Castle. I was so excited to return for the first time since then. We stayed in Watertown for the night, then drove to Alexandria Bay. It was all better than I expected! In the 70’s, the castle was in ruins. I honestly had no idea it was being renovated as this was a last minute addition to a trip in the Adirondack Mountains. It was worth taking a day to see the castle and yacht house and the area!We took a boat over to Boldt Castle around 11:30 am on a Thursday. The boat ride was between five and ten minutes. We walked through the castle and around the grounds and spent 3 wonderful hours. We had a quick lunch at the cafe, then took a shuttle over to the Yacht House. That may have taken 15 minutes to tour (the boat ride was about 5 minutes). All so interesting! We walked through a few shops and were in our car and heading home by 4 pm.I can’t wait to return to the area and spend more time here. Next time I would stay in Alexandria Bay for a few days!

Such a beautiful place to visit! Our relative brought us here as we were visiting the region, and we had such a lovely time here. They’ve done a fantastic job restoring it. The staff is friendly and gives lots of info on the property. There’s also an audio tour you can do via Wi-Fi on your phone. Definitely worth visiting!
