Michele Davidson, Modern Celebrant

My husband and I worked with Janis Horne of “Modern Celebrant” and I have to say that it was a major highlight of our wedding. It can be tricky uniting two very different backgrounds and cultures but yet Janis made it seem so easy. Janis was kind and patient and met with representatives from my husband’s family’s religious background to ensure a very multicultural ceremony. Not only did she work hard to ensure that it was a ceremony that was respectful of our differing religious and cultural backgrounds but she made the ceremony maintain “us” within it. She tailored our ceremony to our story and love and we couldn’t have picked someone better to communicate our feelings and stance on love better than Janis. There was a lot of happy crying and I think that Janis really helped us all communicate how we felt despite the tears. She was so professional and helpful too since she carefully assisted us in hiding our vows from one another until the actual ceremony and it was a really beautiful and genuine surprise. She also did a community vow which I think is really beautiful and should make a comeback in ceremonies since you are surrounded by your loved ones and so support is given from both us and those around us. I am so happy we had Janis as our celebrant because of her genuine kindness and care for “getting it all right.” We wouldn’t have had it any other way.
