Thrifty Car Rental

The rental was fine. I received an upgrade to a large SUV as the car I reserved wasn’t available, which was a plus. Service was fast but not friendly.The return process was cumbersome - it required that a receipt proving that the vehicle had been filled up be placed on the dash along with a check-in form. This was not explained at the start of the rental - I had to read the fine print to avoid a fueling charge.

I was a little hesitant based on the other reviews, but I was pleased with my experience. Service was good, they had the car ready on my arrivals, no surprises. Definitely the cheapest rental place out there.. However for long trips with highway driving, I won't be getting an economy car again. The engines are small and actually burn more gas than a slightly bigger model. And you have to fill up more often.

Look, the previous reviews had me sketched out, but it was fine in the end. The prices change often depending on the when you look online, but after explaining this, the owner cut me a deal when I unexpectedly needed an extra day on my previously locked in rental. The price still beat the hell out of every other provider, so I'm not going to quibble that some other customer had helpfully dropped chip crumbs down the side of the driver's seat of my rental and over the pleather shifter cover.The rental and return process was painless, the price quoted was the price I paid, he didn't ask for extra proof of insurance after I explained my credit card gave it to me, and he even gave me a category up from my reserved compact car for free due to availability issues. So the car wasn't meticulously clean, but to save $150 on a weekly rental compared to the competition, I know why I'm at a place called 'Thrifty.'

So I have to admit I was scared after reading these Reviews... I went early just in case of any problems... AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! only problem was I went too early and my car wasn't in yet(which was my fault). They had a car there on time, it was clean and no problems. $ was a quoted when I booked and drop off in Quebec was just as easy. THe guy wasn't warm and fuzzy but far from rude or offensive. I had a pleasant experience and didn't see any of the below reviews accurate with my experience.

The service was cordial and friendly. The rates were good. I also appreciated that the car we ordered was the one that we got, unlike other rental agencies that provide only a large fuel-inefficient muscle car when we wanted a fuel-efficient compact.

Chose this rental place because it was close to home but I won't choose it again. I was originally quoted $87 for a three day rental, which turned into a $300+ rental before gas. Firstly, the original quote was apparently displayed in US dollars. Upon picking up the car, I was asked whether I wanted winter tires or regular tires. I looked at the snow and ice outside and said, I would have assumed all of your cars had winter tires." The person at the counter replied

I really appreciated this particular location. There was a large variety of vehicles to choose from, surprisingly most of them are fully loaded with all the bells and whistles.The owner accepted to match prices in case I found a better deal, in my case he lowered the daily price by 10$.I rented a Jeep Compass fully loaded with navigation, leather seats, gps & satellite for 10$ more than a regular full size car from.

Worst service -- do not rent from Thrifty in Ottawa! I reserved a rental a week in advance, but, when I arrived to pick my car up, the agent informed me that no cars were available because some drop-offs hadn't come in. He said he was expecting more cars at 2pm and 3pm. He said there was no other way for him to find another car, and that this happens sometimes. I told him that this was disrupting my weekend plans and asked him to do whatever he could to get me a car as soon as possible. When I called the phone number he had given me at 3pm to see if he had found a car for me, the number was only for central bookings which informed me that the Catherine Street office closed at 2pm. I am absolutely appalled at this horrendous service from Thrifty. I rent regularly from Budget, Enterprise, and Hertz in Ottawa and I have never had this problem before. This was my first and last time with Thrifty. The agent failed to call me to notify me that he did not have a car for me and then lied to me in saying that I might get a car at 2 or 3pm when he knew the office was closed at 2pm. I want nothing to do with a company that hires such unethical and incompetent individuals as their representative, and I will be sure to tell others that they should rent from any rental car company in Ottawa except Thrifty.PS I see the agent has now posted a fake 5 star review under a supposedly real name in response to mine and other negative reviews -- people don't make up such detailed negative reviews, especially ones so consistent with each other...this guy is an outright scammer, stay away!

Simply outstanding! Musa went went well above and beyond in his service to us and provided us with exactly what we were looking for at a great price. The vehicle was in excellent condition and despite us being a walk-in the vehicle was ready to go. I would definitely recommend this branch of Hertz/Thrifty.
