The Job of Calm

Andrea is an INCREDIBLE dog trainer. My partner and I adopted a 6 year old dog from the states in the spring who was nervous as HECK; while he bonded well with us, and was comfortable to stay home without us in our home, he would be terrified to stay with other people, likely for fear he'd lost another family. Andrea supported us, and our lovely little boy, to gain confidence and in the process improve obedience along the way. We are so happy to have worked with her; though they say old dogs can't learn new tricks, Andrea has secrets to get them learning.

We recently did private training sessions with Andrea to help our 1.5 year old Daschund with his lack of confidence and reactivity (he's fearful of other dogs he encounters on walks). We did 6 sessions and we learned so much! Andrea is so knowledgeable and patient. Private sessions are totally worth it, as your training is catered to your dog's individual needs. It's a great way to diagnose and address exact issues. Our dog is now doing great on his walks and is amazing with his Place command. We learned how to be better advocates for him and we are better at navigating situations so he feels safe. I can't recommend Andrea enough!

Andrea is amazing! I adopted an adult hound and wanted to start off with a strong foundation and learn how to effectively engage with him. As my first solo dog and first hound, I had a lot of questions. She took time to understand us and our goals (even met us for a consultation) and checked in every week. She was responsive, flexible, and incredibly easy to work with - I learned so much from her guidance. Reef is more engaged with me on walks, at home, and during play. I didn’t even realize what he was capable of until Andrea showed me. She even gifted us a flirt pole at the end of our session, which is STILL Reef’s favourite thing. Thank you Andrea!

I adopted my Westie at a year old. He had never walked on a leash and was reactive to other dogs. It was hard to get his attention. After spending time working with Andrea, he's very responsive on a leash, listens when I call him, and can remain calm in public around other dogs. We can do so much more now, which is more fun for both of us. Andrea is very patient and clear -- working with her was a complete game-changer. Highly recommended!

We are so glad we chose to work with Andrea! Our main goal was loose leash walking with our very active border collie mix (not an easy task) and using her tips, games, and tool suggestions, we have achieved our goal in a short amount of time. Andrea’s own dog was also a great help in our training to build some neutrality. We REALLY appreciated the detailed notes that were sent after each session and I am very hopeful that by following this homework, we can achieve our other reactivity goals soon. Highly recommend!

All the reviews are true! Andrea is truly an amazing, patient, and knowledgable dog trainer. Each session is super focused and Andrea is non-judgmental and meets you where you're at. We started one-on-one training with her when our puppy was about 4 months old and it's incredible to see how much has paid off already (people can't believe he's not even 5 months old yet because of his training!). He really loves her and even tried following her home after the initial meet & greet. We mentioned that he likes to sniff, so Andrea even incorporated an intro to scent detection work for our last session which was super fun! If you have a rescue dog: she has a realistic and understanding approach to rescue dog training since she has a beautiful rescue dog too! We always recommend her to everyone because she's just that good. Thanks, Andrea--can't wait to do more training!

Andrea was a huge help with our cattle dog mix Felix. Throughout the whole process she was very attentive to our experiences and tailored each session to work on specific problems we were having. We received detailed notes after each session that continue to help us. Andrea was also able to bring her dog to some of our training sessions, which was perfect for working on Felix's neutrality around other dogs. We really enjoyed working with Andrea, she made a positive impact on our dogs crazy behavior.

I started using The Job of Calm's walking services in October of 2022 for my two dogs, Coffee & Mudd. Coffee is quite reactive on leash, and Mudd sometimes joins in but also needed help gaining confidence on stair cases and around random objects that would scare him outside. Andrea and Jess (who walks my dogs) came for a meet & greet and created a game plan for starting the boys off with private walks before transitioning them to group walks. They did private walks for 1 month so Jess could get to know them and their needs before starting on group walks.Within the first week I could tell I'd made the right choice! Jess always sends detailed updates and photos/videos of the boys, and it was amazing to see Mudd's progress on the stairs in particular. Once they moved to group walks I was truly amazed! Introductions with other dogs have always been touch and go with by dogs, but I trusted Jess completely and knew she'd be patient and safe. Now they have 4 different dogs they've walked with and I'm so so proud of them!I've noticed a huge difference when out on walks with them myself! Recently we braved an off leash area for the first time in a long time, and the boys were SO much better than I could have ever imagined around the others dogs they met. I signed up for private training with Andrea for my 18 months old Lagotto Romagnolo and it was worth every penny. Andrea is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable and her LIMA approach is aligned with my values. We worked on loose leash walking, place, reactivity at the door/visitors, recall and a few other things - we covered a ton of terrain but from the very first lesson I noticed a significant positive difference in my dog. I loved the process and I feel much more confident as a first-time dog owner now, all thanks to Andrea. I will for sure do a refresher session later on and likely sign up for group walks/training as well. Best training I've had for my dog so far, highly recommend it!

We have been using the Job of Calm's walking services for about a year, since our dog was 6 months old. I cannot recommend Andrea and her team enough! We have always felt so confident that our dog is safe and well taken care of. It was important to us that the walks were not only fun for our dog, but incorporated structure and training as well, and The Job of Calm is absolutely perfect for that. The group walk format is perfect for allowing our dog to practice being around other dogs in a structured environment, while remaining on-leash and safe. Andrea and her team are incredibly professional and flexible to our always changing schedule. Most importantly our dog loves walking with her friends (human and canine)!
