GT Marine Electric

I used Geoff for installing a dual battery set up and wiring/tuning my new amp. Geoff is a very thorough individual who cuts no corners and can recite marine standards at the drop of a hat. He is meticulous when it comes to wiring and goes above and beyond to make sure everything works to a tee. I would highly recommend Geoff for any of your marine electrical needs!

Unfortunately I used GT marine electric for an installation of a Radar Dome mast and a Raymarine multi function radar/GPS/ fish finder unit. The electrical work was fine but the mast work and support struts were installed very poorly resulting in a failure on the first use ( mast came off the base damaging the unit). GT was aware of the specific installation as it was shown to him prior to the work starting. The cost was almost double what I had been quoted by the time it was finished. I asked to have it repaired and he wanted to charge his full regular rate of 150/hr. I have shown the work to another installation company and the supplier of the parts and work was done incorrectly and would result in a further 7 hrs to repair. I would strongly recommend you go elsewhere or seek out someone with more experience for any Marine structural work. 9 months later the unit still doesn't work and I have paid thousands of dollars not a good experience

The work Geoff Thorner did on my boat (well, a boat I am a partner in!) demonstrated to me that he is a rare find.We had gotten through a tricky redesign of the boat's charging system, when the electrician I had previously engaged just stopped showing up.Geoff picked up the work very quickly, and finished the job with superb precision. This may have something to do with Geoff's training as a qualified aviation technician (meaning he worked as an electrician on commercial passenger-carrying aircraft). Or maybe it just happens that he is naturally thoughtful, careful, and efficient. As a boat owner for the last 59 or so years, Geoff stands out in my mind as one of the top tradesman I have ever hired.By the way, I first heard about Geoff at Steveston Marine, Vancouver's largest chandlery. I asked for a recommendation for a marine electrician, and Geoff was at the top of the list.Five stars, all earned.
