Harvest City Church
I attended Harvest City for 11 years. I first started attending Harvest City when I moved in the area. It was the most accessible church for me at the time because I did not have my license.I was looking for a church with strong leadership and not a lot of staff turnover which creates instability in the congregation, I was looking for a kind and loving community like I had previously at my previous church, I was looking for a place to serve God in ministry, and most of all I was looking for a safe place where I could heal. After all Jesus loves us and has the power to heal, hold us close, and bind up our broken heart. When I first started attending Harvest City I had left a spiritually abusive situation a year prior of all places at Bible College which caused a lot of spiritual trauma and caused the onset of severe PTSD. I came in to HCC vulnerable, desperately wanting and needing someone to take me under their wing and help me, and I wanted to rebuild my faith after such a devastating blow to my faith.Sadly enough what I experienced at HCC was unfriendly people who were very cold with the exception of a few who had beautiful, kind, and warm hearts who loved Jesus. But overall I did not feel a sense of family, community, or care. I heard others who were attending there and were new say the same thing.I reached out to the Pastors for help any my cry for help was not heard. I spent months hoping the former pastor Dave Wells would help me after writing him a letter pouring out my heart to him. He did call me which was nice and did offer to have me over for supper which was a promise that was never kept or followed through on. To them it was just a dinner offer no big deal. To me it was a promise and a lifeline for help that never came. I had such a longing for family that I was hoping when Dave and Linda had me over for supper that I could build a nice relationship with them and feel like part of the family. I cries and prayed for months for follow through but later when I shared with Pastor Dave the impact it had on me he did apologize but I got the sense he never really understood the pain involved in forgetting his promise. I grew up in a very broken and abusive home so having that sense of a healthy family" was such a cry and desire of my heart. If I am really honest with some pastors at other churches I felt love and warmth from them. With Pastor Dave I felt like he was task oriented and not warm and loving towards me at all. In later years I talked about this issue with a counselor at HCC and her answer was he is more of an apostle who focuses on the big picture. Isn't a pastor's job to "see" people and love and care for the congregation especially the lost and vulnerable? It is.When Pastor Joel Dave's son took over the lead pastor Position his style of preaching was very difficult for me because he would yell or in his words be passionate but to me the sermons were very harsh and I didn't see much compassion

I love this church and school! The teachers are kind, caring, and hardworking and teach their students to have those traits. The small class sizes make it easy to get to know everyone in your grade and for teachers to give lots of attention to each student. I have been graduated for over 6 years now, but I still look back fondly on my school experience and the friendships I made here.As for the church services, there are a variety of regular and guest speakers which help to bring different perspectives and keep the Sunday services engaging week after week. The church has recently been doing sermon series where different speakers will speak on different aspects of a unified topic over a number of weeks. Each service also typically starts with lively worship songs led by a variety of musicians ranging from popular song-writers — such as Corey Lueck — all the way to young talent like students in the school. The church has a variety of ministries and small groups so there are many opportunities to serve and get connected with people that will help you to grow in your Christian walk through Bible study, prayer, mutual encouragement and serving others.
