A gem to visit and learn about Stephan G. Stephansson – Poet of the Rocky Mountains and the lives of his family over the years. The Stephansson’s home is a wonderful snapshot in time. With the costumed interpreters helping bring this story to life. The home has very interesting furnishings of the period.

The house really is the only thing to see here (no outbuildings), but it has been beautifully maintained and the tour guide was very knowledgeable - and a great baker! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area, or making a special trip if you have any interest in Icelandic lore.

Neat place and very authentic just a bit small. The fact that a bunch of Icelandic settlers made a go of it years ago is neat. Highly recommend combining this with a trip to Markerville

So happy that this little piece of Albertan/Icelandic history has been preserved and restored so well. The tour guides, Alex and Jenna in our case, were knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. They have self-guided tour pamphlets in English, French and Icelandic if that is more your speed. Would highly recommend if you’re ever in the Markerville area!

A wonderful place to explore Alberta's Icelandic heritage. The resident historian was very knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend the Stephansson house to anyone looking to experience Alberta's early history.

A gem of a place that I'd passed by for years. But best is the outstanding tour guide! She's got an awesome depth of knowledge and shared it in a relaxed and warm style. Highly, highly recommend.

From the outside it doesn’t look like there’s a whole lot to do, however when you get an engaging tour guide like we had yesterday an otherwise small little house becomes a big interesting adventure. We spent easily an hour and a half to two hours in the house fully engaged in the stories of the tour guide, and the immersive explantations of life at the house at the objects that it contains. We all know the adage don’t judge a book by its cover, well don’t judge this house simply by a cursory look.

A day trip to Markerville is not complete without visiting this spot. Excellent guide, she will tell you all the details and stories you want to know.
