ASA Meat & West Indian Grocery Inc

A well organized place for West Indian groceries and snacks. The fish section was problematic. I saw a fish (gilbakar) on display and wanted to purchase a piece, but the guy wouldn't sell the one I requested, which looked fresh; instead offering me piece from another fish which looked not so fresh. I thought grocery stores were suppose to sell you what you are requesting, not what the workers want to sell. Was the fresh fish there for display purposes only? Was it saved for someone else or himself? Just shady. So I just walked out, and went to a regular supermarket, purchased a piece of grouper, which was probably better than the gilbakar anyways.

The owner of this business is extremely rude and inappropriate! He lacks manners and customer service skills. I’ve been supporting this business for years and decided to stop today because of his poor attitude. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere because if ever you shop here and require assistance or have questions, you’ll be screamed at instead.

The folks here are really nice and helpful. I live in Quebec, so I only get to Ontario once or twice a year, so it’s important for me to have a fun shopping experience. Thanks ASA!

Great store to get Caribbean groceries. The meat and vegetables are always fresh and they also have a bakery on site for fresh bread and treats.

I have never witnessed such a rude owner. I went in the day before Christmas, and I witnessed him yell, disrespect, and embarrass a customer in the store. A lady asked for fresh bread and he started screaming at her in front of everyone. She did tell him he was being rude to her and he’s a bully but he kept screaming at her. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen him be rude to customers and yell at them in the store. Go shop at Ravi’s.

Discovered this grocery by chance and it didn’t disappoint. Had some khurma and coconut drops and they were delicious. Shopped there several times after that and it’s always nostalgic buying foods from brands that I know. Will be sure to visit every time I go to Brampton.

Guys are the back (butchers) are always rude, and this place is over priced I’m happy there are more options in the area now.

Bought 60$ worth of oxtail. Marinaded and cooked them. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Something wrong with meat. Called to try and rectify. NOPE. Claiming nothing wrong with meat. I’m a chef and trust me there’s something so wrong. I couldn’t even eat the oxtail nor could my husband. Garbage and that’s where this meat is going. Pathetic how ASA meats wouldn’t offer any compensation. Will never shop there again and I suggest no one else ship there either…..unless you enjoy subpar awful oxtails. Shame on you ASA.

I visited this store this morning around 10:45 am to buy some produce to make pepper sauce. I proceeded to the cash to purchase my items but when I noticed the scotch bonnet peppers looked stale - I decided to return a bag of scotch bonnet peppers. Before I asked for the refund the bill came up to 30 dollars (tax included) The refund item (scotch bonnet peppers) were 6.99. After she refunded the item the final total was 26 dollars. At the moment I payed for my groceries and walk towards the exit of the store but something was telling me the cashier made a mistake so I went back into the store. I approached this older gentleman (wearing a red T-shirt) who would usually be in front of the door as people walked him. I tried to explain my issue but he wouldn’t let me speak and kept cutting me off. He was EXTREMELY disrespectful what made it worse was the fact that he was YELLING AT ME. Other people were looking over and I felt so embarrassed. I asked him quietly to lower his voice and he yelled saying “THIS IS MY VOICE”. He did not give me a chance or opportunity to explain my grievance and concern against the bill. As he became more confrontational and more uncooperative I decided to leave the store! This man was a totally out of control!!!! A BULLY and so dam DISRESPECTFUL. I just spent my hard earned money in his establishment! When I returned to my car “horrified” I called the store to speak to a manager. That same cashier who checked out my groceries (I could tell it was the same voice) answered the phone and when I asked to speak to a manager - she put the same HOSTILE elderly man in the phone and he hung the phone up on me. I know these individuals at ASA ripped me off!!! I’ve heard other customers (West Indian like myself) say the same but I always give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I am so disgusted and I will never return to that store again. Also, the items that I purchased were not even listed on the bill nor the item the cashier claimed she voided. These owners actually need my measly 6.99 for their store to remain open!? Public PLEASE beware!!
