Best school to learn heavy combative fencing in western Canada.

Hema Edmonton has some of the most focused and educational instructors when it comes to sword fighting and technique. Jack and Codi have put lots of effort into crafting a welcoming environment that aims to help teach classical heavy fencing and hone skills in dueling.

A very supportive group that is devoted to individual, personal growth in a competitive environment. I've made many good friends through this group.

Great HEMA club!I was pleased to find a club that provided emphasis on both the techniques from the manuals and the use of modern drill techniques. John and Aaron provided helpful and real-time coaching during class and sparring. Everyone was very welcoming and very enthusiastic about the sport.

Very laid back. The goal is to have fun so there's only the pressure you put on yourself. Everyone is helpful and will help you build up what you want to work on. Lots of fun.

Excellent club and atmosphere. They always make you feel welcome and included; I've met many great people there. Very flexible and adaptive learning, and always a passionate effort put into helping you grow.

Welcoming environment to any and all levels of HEMA practitioners. What I liked best about it was an adherence to instruction on the fly during sparring. Insufficiencies were worked out in a manner that was organic and non-formulaic: with a few tweaks from Aaron's suggestions, my sword and buckler form improved as the session went on. John is also an open-minded guy whose philosophy doesn't demean other techniques learned from other disciplines. Though super knowledgeable of the source material, this openmindedness allows innovation from the modern age to cross-pollinate with the HEMA philosophies of the past. The conversations had at the club also permeate the discipline: the club knows it's not in a vacuum and it's awesome to be a part of the discussions on politics, religion, or even gardening while getting a good beating in. Great club, can't wait to go back.
