Neighborhound Dog Training

My senior dog Lu and I worked with Julia to address his reactivity to other dogs and keep him feeling supported. After five sessions over the span of a few months, I can see a huge difference in Lu's behavior - he's responsive, smiling (mouth open), and happy to go out (no more stress yawning when I take out his leash!). And I feel confident that I have the tools to keep him safe now. Julia's approach is strengths-based (for us pet owners) and positive reinforcement oriented (for the pups). I especially appreciated how she gave feedback gently and from a place of non-judgment, always focusing on what we might learn and not expecting our progress to be linear, either!

Obie was always very excited to see Julia (he still looks for her in our training area :)). I don't usually write reviews for companies/people, but I felt the need to write one for Julia. Julia is amazing, and I am so grateful that I found her for dog training. She is all about making positive impacts for your dog without using any methods that can break your dogs trust in you.I got a new puppy, and Julia has helped me through all the issues I've had. I'm pretty sure she had a lesson plan for all the training, but she was so flexible to what I needed that the lesson plan always changed to make sure Potato was getting the best training he needed in the moment of him acting out.

We brought our 5 year old dog Zoey to Julia for help with walking on a leash, focusing with distractions, and controlling her overreactions to other dogs. Each session with Julia was easy, valuable, and Zoey loved going to see her!The skills and tools Julia has shared with us will allow us to take Zoey on more adventures, and these are skills we can continue working on over time. If you are looking for a professional pet trainer who has a knowledgeable background in pets, Julia is the right person you are looking for. In the beginning, I wasn't so sure about the pet training course whether it could change my boy's behaviour of barking at any dog or not. But Julia uses her magic power to change the way how I thought after two sessions. Julia's training is responsible, detailed, and well organized. I highly recommend her to anybody.

Recently finished a training series with Julia. It was wonderful! Here are some thoughts.- Julia understands dogs! She would point to small things my dogs do that I never even noticed even though I've had them for years. I feel like I understand my dogs more now than before.- Julia really respects dogs! When I started researching for trainers, I was really worried about inhumane training methods (and my inability to tell if a method is inhumane). I found Julia through BC AnimalKind (BC SPCA’s animal welfare accreditation and referral program). Throughout our work together. Julia always gives our dogs the choice to walk away from training. She would occasionally stop me from instinctively trying to make my dogs to do more than they're comfortable with, and instead would switch the activity so my dogs would voluntarily come back for more training. I really appreciated that.- Julia is also super good at training people! This may sound odd, but part of the deal is that she's training me how to train dogs. My job is in educating adults (I'm a professor), so I've witnessed many ways people communicate (or fail to communicate) knowledge to adults. Learning from Julia has been such a pleasant experience.
