Came here a month ago to celebrate a birthday and was impressed with the full experience - from the quality food, to the immersive greeting from the kitchen, and the friendliness of the host & servers. We ordered the Wagyu beef tongue, chef's special sashimi, and the Wagyu special oshi sushi to try. Everything was delicious and of high quality, especially the fish. The beef tongue melts in your mouth so I highly recommend trying this too.Returned yesterday evening and received excellent service and delicious food once again. What consistency! Tried the grilled rice ball as well as the hamachi oshi sushi this time on top of the above and these were tasty!! Prices are fair for the quality of food and experience that you get in return. Make sure to reserve ahead of time prior to weekends to avoid any disappointment.

An excellent experience, especially if you're celebrating a special occasion. The service is wonderful, the staff are great, and the food is second to none. We had the age tofu, sushi, wagyu (which they cook at your table!), and squid legs. Everything was fresh and skillfully prepared. We will definitely be back and recommend the experience wholeheartedly!

Had a really lovely time at Honjin while on vacation. Gotta shout out the friendly and attentive waiters, they were awesome!The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and welcoming as an izakaya, it's on the second floor of a busy Japanese market/restaurant and the decor of the entire building is fun.Onto the food, we got some delicious mocktails and a few dishes. The beef tataki, which was fresh and delicious; the A4 Wagyu, which just completely melted away when we ate it (that's amazing); the Honjin Trinity (SO GOOD!!); and the jumbo Karaage, which was standard.I think overall the food was really good but was elevated by the kind staff and great service ☺️ Will definitely come back again one day!!

Service was nice and food came out quick.Overall most of the food wasn't bad, my favourites would be the honjin trinity, grilled salmon belly, and the sashimi was decent as well. The fried items were a hit or a miss, the squid was good but to tofu was just alright. Their yakitori isn't grilled over charcoal so it's missing that crucial char flavour. Also, the dollops of sauce on the beef tataki is too big so there's too much sauce in each bite.

Had the pleasure of having this restaurant as our wedding party venue. Everything from organizing the event to the execution went above and beyond expectations! The food & drinks was AMAZING! and all the staff were IMPECCABLE! All of our guest were amazed. Thank you Brandon, and all of the Honjin Staff for making our wedding night perfect!

Went to this newish izakaya and was presently surprised! The place is very chic and buzz with energy. The decor closely resembles Japanese city izakaya and the food is Amazing! My favorite is the sea urchins with ikura and quail egg on oyster shell. Food presentation was truly amazing as well. The bottom floor is the usual Tokyo street market and the upper floor is Honjin. Parking is a little tight during the day, but once the next door tire shop closes, parking has ample space. Highly recommend!

It's in the upper floor of Toky Street Market. There was parking in the lot or else it's street parking in the back. The food tasted delicious and it was well presented. In terms of portion sizes something like the squid legs felt like you didn't get value for your dollar. Thought that they would have more per plate. Some of the other portion size was good.There were extra tables around us so if you didn't have a reservation you might be able to get a seat as well.The music was quite loud and it was hard to hear that person sitting in front of you without shouting. They could have turned it down just a bit.

Great food, great atmosphere, wonderful staff! Considering that we couldn't eat anything raw (pregnant wife), the menu still had a lot to offer. Portions were generous for an Izakaya. Wife and I loved the Angus Beef with mushrooms. Cocktails and mocktails were well balanced. We had the Negroni, Pillowtalk and Yuzu and they were yummy. We tried the cheese tofu dessert and cannot recommend it enough. The ambiance is bang on: casual and cozy and Instagramable. We will be back to try more dishes :)

Located close to chinook mall Honjin is a spin off from the tokyo street market chain. They have another market inside the building where you can buy pre-made items / sushi. The restaurant has a very nice vibe feel to it but I felt like the food was sub par. The yakitori chicken thigh was disappointing as this was not made using the charcoal (taste was too sweet and no grill flavor). The chicken wing was disappointing too and lacked effort. The abalone was probably the best dish out of all (cheesy flavor mayo on the abalone). Overall pricier for subpar food.

First time dining in. Went on a Friday around 6:30pm. We made reservations ahead of time and were promptly seated as soon as we arrived. Parking wasn’t too bad. The restaurant was located right above Tokyo Street Market. The fresh cucumber, orange, lemon or lime slices to add to each of our water was a unique/personalized touch. We ordered a bunch of things to share. The presentation of the sashimi platter was a wow! Service was very friendly and prompt the whole time. The server forgot to enter one of our dishes so it was kindly made complimentary to us. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would come again.
