Regarding the Covid 19 pandemic, Mrs. Wilson’s family thanks the staff at Bearbrook for taking such good care of the residents. Your precautions and brave staff clearly saved lives. As close as one kilometre and as far away as Australia, her isolation weighed heavily on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. You did a fabulous job keeping the residents engaged with their families via videos, pictures and virtual meetings.

After an illness, I decided to spend a month at Bearbrook to rest and relax. I very much enjoyed my stay in a respite suite. The room was large and comfortable, with a walk in shower, a small kitchenette and plenty of closet space. Staff were friendly, accommodating, and always had time for a chat with residents. The food was very good and varied, with soup, appetizers, desserts and two specials at each meal, as well as an a la carte menu. Although I was quite a few years younger, I really enjoyed the social meals with table mates. I drive, and went out daily, but there were many organized activities and weekly outings available for residents who spent more time there. The gym, pool table, sunroom, library and laundry facilities were great to have. I was impressed with Covid protection protocols and always felt safe. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

My mom room is so, dirty, and they would never come and clean her room. It sad, you, pay so much for you’re parent to go there, and look it’s not worth it! We sent her elsewhere because of it!

My mother has been living here for over two years. She is very happy. The staff to resident ratio is very good. This place is small enough that the staff get to know all the residents. Food is pretty good. Staff turnover seems to be very low. Staff is pleasant.

My wife Eddie had hip replacement surgery on April 8 at the Ottawa General Hospital; she had to leave the day following her operation for a respite home we had booked on Merivale Avenue. Unfortunately, that home was neither equipped nor staffed to accommodate someone undergoing recovery immediately subsequent to the operation. At 7am, I took my wife from that home to a place I knew well in Blackburn Hamlet - Bearbrook Retirement Residence. We had no booking or reservation, they had no clue that my wife and I were to show up and beg for a room. I pulled up to the front door and went to the front desk, the General Manager I had known from years ago when I was a client of this place welcomed me and asked what I was doing here. I explained the situation and he was more than eager to help. He said they would give us a one bedroom apartment. He asked the nursing staff to help my wife out of the car and into the residence, there was no hanging about. The nursing staff could not have been more caring and empathetic, the support staff could not have been more genuine and kind. Although the accommodation was for my wife, they also put a cot in the room so I could be close to her. They provided a hospital bed, lots of grab bars in the bathroom, the room was bright, freshly painted and airy. Food was as I remembered - excellent! Nutritious, balanced and tasty. All in all, having been to many facilities in the US and Canada, I would rate this retirement residence as the best I have experienced. I simply do not have words to express my appreciation for all they have done to help my wife and myself.

Mom often mentions that her suite, which was newly renovated when she moved in, is lovely. Just last night she told me that while she’s generally enjoying having people around her, in particular she likes the people at Bearbrook Retirement Residence very much, that the staff are very good to her, and so much fun! She also tells me that the food is good and that her absolute favorite activity is the exercise classes. She’s so happy! #BearbrookRetirementResidence #community #eldercare #theWarmthofHumanConnection

This place is disgusting. If I could give it negative stars I would. My mom sat in her own urine every day for years. When I asked for help their response is “ They are in Independent Living, there’s nothing we can do.” They were clearly not independent but not worthy of their time or compassion. Their motto is to “be there for you for every stage of your life. “ It. Is.A.Lie. They don’t care about their residents just about making a profit. Can’t pay, you will suffer. And believe me, my parents suffered a great deal under their “care”. Their unit was so gross and dirty. Dust and garbage everywhere. They were in quarantine for 10 days due to Covid and they didn’t even bother picking up the trays and 1/2 eaten food. I had to clean it up….10 days later. You can imagine how that looked. They were rude to my parents as their mental health declined and they had issues with hygiene, rather than offer support, they contacted their doctor to complain about “their smell”without their or the family’s permission or consent. Their doctor had to call me and ask them to stop contacting her as they were doing this multiple times a week. They even made a drs appt for them once with no mention of it to them or family. When they got the appointment reminder my dad was appalled that the residence had made an appt for them without speaking to him first. Their neglect of care was appalling. I wouldn’t put a rat in there much less a family member. My father was taken by ambulance to the hospital for a severe medical condition and almost a week later they haven’t even inquired about his condition. There are better places to put your money, this retirement home will slowly kill your loved ones who will be left with no dignity and zero compassion.

Caring. Considerate. Kind. Thoughtful. Compassionate. That has been our experience dealing with the Bearbrook management and staff. They have also been attentive to things that are not to our liking, and they worked to successfully rectify them. They strive to make it a happy place and they succeed. And in difficult health-related situations the care really shines, they went above and beyond. We are very happy with our decision to have our family members move there.

Excellent place. My grandma moved there to be closer of us. We get to see her as much necessary without travelling for hours. The food is very good. Very impressed.

Beware. Sienna recently bought this residence known to the locals as Amica. Was very happy with the previous management, but Sienna is out to make money and is not concerned about the welfare of the residents.
