Phoenix Taekwondo Martial Arts Academy

The teaching is good, the people are nice and the classes are awesome, but the way contracts work is unethical. I chose the 8 month program but they still kept charging me after the 8 months (they charged me 3 extra months which was about $460 in total - I found out that late because I don't check my bank account often). Even if it was made clear (which I don't think it was) at the beginning when I discussed the contract with them, it's not like I would remember after 8 months especially when the whole covid situation hit (this all happened in 2020; I'm writing about it now cause I can't stop ruminating). I talked to them about it and they said that they automatically renewed my contract after the term ended but I was never informed of this; they never told me my contract was renewed until I talked to them about why they charged me extra - why even have the options of 6, 8 and 12 months if all of them are automatically renewed for more than what they are? It doesn't make sense. Even if it was made clear in the beginning that this is how it works, they could at least still remind people before renewing, but they don't. I emailed them after the in-person talk and they offered a refund or to take 3 free months of classes; I chose the refund but they never responded/reimbursed. I really like this place but I'm very disappointed in how they conduct their business.

I joined Phoenix Taekwondo when I first moved to Canada in 2013. This school has not only been a place where I get to practice my favorite martial art, but it has given me a family. I cannot thank Master Koh enough for everything he has taught me, from discipline, to work ethic, to self-control, to being the best person I can be inside and outside of the school. Phoenix TKD gave me confidence and helped me transition into a new culture as an international student. I have found a place where I always fit in, and I have made a lot of valuable friends and teammates. I have achieved more than I thought I could thanks to this school. I am very happy and proud to be a member of Phoenix Taekwondo.

When you join Phoenix TKD, you don't just learn taekwondo, but become part of a community. The instructors are very knowledgeable, caring, funny, inspiring, and engaging. Some of Canada's top talent trains and teaches here, and even the white belt kids have the opportunity to learn from them as the teachers rotate through the groups and levels. We greatly appreciated Master Koh's addition of live online classes during the pandemic - it was a lifeline to the outside world, and kept my kids active, learning and having fun during a challenging time. Great experience.

I joined Phoenix Taekwondo Academy a little over two years ago. I had just finished university and I was feeling like I needed to do something to improve myself. So I joined and after the first class, I realized how great this school is. Within a couple of months, I was more patient and efficient at work because my level of concentration had increased. Now when I go to Taekwondo, I feel at home with friends and family.

Our son has been at Phoenix TKD for over a year and a half now. We love the attention to discipline and technique that this school has. At first our son was attending a few days a week, now he attends as many as we can take him to....because he requests it. We've seen such an improvement in his skill level and his self confidence and respect for others is such a bonus. Thanks so much Master Koh.

I moved to Ottawa 3 yrs ago from Sarnia Ontario where I trained at Bluewater Taekwondo. I was welcomed with open arms and was immediately treated like part of the Taekwondo family. Phoenix Martial Arts Academy is the best taekwondo school in Ottawa.

I joined the Phoenix Taekwondo Martial Arts Academy January 2009, and like many adults it was my kids that brought me there. At 48 years old and suffering from arthritis, I really didn't see the need to subject myself to that type of physical training. However, the instructors at the academy pointed out to me that it might be better to give the class a try and see how it goes; so I did. This year, I am pleased to say that I passed my black belt test and that I am much more active and capable thanks to my own persistence and also the encouragement and support I received from the staff and my fellow students. As such, I am very proud to be associated with the Phoenix Taekwondo Martial Arts Academy and grateful for the initial prompting that got me to where I am today. The secret behind the academy’s success is its successful blend of spirit and know-how.

Phoenix gives the students a sense of community - kind of like a family. In fact, this tends to be a family affair as parents and kids join together. I joined 2 months after my daughter did, as I really liked the way the masters and instructors were interacting with children.After I joined myself, I found a new path to self improvement and the same sense of community. I get really frustrated if I have to miss a class for any reason. And the one punishment my daughter is afraid of the most is not being allowed to go to class.We've been training at Phoenix for almost a year now and look forward to many more. I found at Phoenix Taekwondo Academy the right place to develop my martial arts skills. Been here almost a year and still love it. They have worked through the challenges in the past year with grace. A good way to exercise and challenge yourself with flexibility and endurance. Happy with all the education so far. They have a diverse team of black belts to help you learn at your own pace.
