Ferryland Lighthouse

Loved visiting Ferryland. Getting to the lighthouse was a long trek but rewarding.We drove as far as we could including a single lane gravel road. Then we paid a person with an enclosed ATV to take us the rest of the way. We did walk back to the car.There are so many amazing views to experience. Unfortunately it was a foggy day for my wife and I.

If you are traveling southern shore from St. John's the Ferryland Light House is not to be missed. It's a short walk out to the lighthouse but certainly worth it as you find yourself out on the point with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean on all sides. Inte Summer the Lighthouse sells picnic lunch baskets of great food for you to enjoy in beautiful atmosphere. (You need to reserve your basket ahead of visit).Being out on the point into the Atlantic it is often windy and cool so bring a blanket and find a place to sit out of the wind and enjoy the view.... If your their in early summer you just might see whales and Icebergs.

Beautiful sight and definitely worth the hike!

Omg this seriously was one of the most amazing meal experiences we've ever had! One of the top 3 highlights of our trip to Newfoundland in June 2019! The scenery was absolutely stunning. The food was delicious and very fresh. There is a bit of a walk in on rough gravel so get there with enough time to enjoy it and not feel rushed. Absolutely make your reservation well in advance. We found the most perfect spot to sit in the sun, sheltered from the wind, soft spongy earth under our blanket which was supplied. While we sat and enjoyed our lunch we saw an iceberg off in the distance, a seal playing in the surf below us, a whale briefly surface a couple times just off shore, and enjoyed the colors and sounds of the massive waves breaking on the cliffs below us. A little piece of heaven, my husband even enjoyed a brief nap after we ate.

Absolutely beautiful views of the town, cove, and ocean. Sedans may have some trouble getting through the gravel road as ours bottomed out on some areas. The walk to the lighthouse is on the service road and maybe 15-20 minutes.We got to see a few whales close to the coastline as well which was a very welcome surprise!

This is a fun hike. First you drive on a narrow dirt lane )with the cliff and the sea on one side) to the middle of the peninsula. Then you start the hike with a narrow trail with sea on both side. Then you'd be hiking through the serenity of trees before emerging to a clearing where the lighthouse stands. The weather when I was there made the whole journey surreal and thrilling. We drove through thick fog and drizzly rain to the parking lot, walked through stormy winds on the trail with rough, growling sea on both sides to the calm and warm embrace of the trees. Finally we emerged to see the lighthouse unveiled through the thick fog. For me it was hike on a rollercoaster of emotions! If you visit on a sunny day, or even better at sunset, you'll see the lighthouse as it is depicted on the storybooks.

WOW!!! Ferryland is beautiful! 5 stars + We brought our own picnic as the lighthouse was closed on the weekend we visited. The lighthouse itself is beautiful sitting upon the cliffs. The landscape is serene. I could honestly spend all day laying on a blanket on the cliff listening to the ocean. The day we visited we watched seals playing in the water while eating our lunch. A must see!

Beautiful short hike to the lighthouse (approximately 2.5 kms from the halfway parking lot and 5.5 kms from the lower parking lot) Even when the fog started to roll in the views were breathtaking. We pre ordered a picnic basket for two and enjoyed it on cliff side with the best ocean scenery.

Once we got up the steep hill with our truck and camper we were happy to see a parking sport. To go the rest of the way up to the house a gentleman was giving rides up to the top for $5 each in his side by side atv. That was really great to have. At the lighthouse we loved the scenery and we saw a bit of a whale to. We walked back down to the truck with no issues.
