Castalia Marsh Retreat

I've now stayed at the marsh retreat 3 different times in 3 different cabins (the barn, frog hollow, captain's quarters) and each time is an absolute delight. This place is magical and I cannot recommend it enough. The cabins are cozy and comfortable, with every amenity you could think of for a comfortable stay. The views of the marsh are unbeatable and the grounds are peaceful and beautiful. James the owner is a lovely, accommodating, host. I can't wait to come back here.

Thoroughly enjoyed our abbreviated vacay in the tiny Frog Hollow cabin. It has been on my bucket list for years and didn't disappoint. James is very gracious and accommodating and his touch is seen in every little quirky nook and cranny of the enviro retreat he has built. The weather was the direct opposite of the forecast and made it even better. Enjoyed a lovely campfire at the communal firepit overlooking the marsh and listening to mostly bad music (except Bryan Adams) from a field concert across the marsh :-) We'll be back!

This is our 2nd time here and we enjoyed it as much as the last. I love the thought and detail that goes into each cottage. They are very clean, yet rustic. Most of all, the respect for our planet is evident. My daughter is now asking for chickens ;) It is a place to be proud of. Thank you, James.

My husband and I spend a few days in late May! It was the most relaxing mini vacation we have ever had. I often think of the little cottage, The Lookout" and can't wait to return. We felt very welcomed and were given fresh eggs on our arrival. We loved everything! The privacy

A complete gem - fun and funky nature cottages. We stayed at the birdhouse. Incredible experiences surrounded by marsh and beach of the adjacent provincial park. From our deck we watched tree swallows feeding their young at a nest box. The buildings at this place are are well kept with so many thoughtful details. Everything in the design demonstrates pride of ownership, skilled craftsmanship, a sustainability ethos, and resourcefulness. My husband and I are so impressed by the whole experience from the grand views (do not leave your binoculars at home!), well appointed kitchen area (eg. Bodum coffee press, glass citrus juicer), local eggs for sale, and small details such as the quality of hand crafted door latches. The owners seem very kind and intelligent and provide an experience of the same kind of privacy you might have wilderness camping but also available to help you out with anything you need.

We've stayed here a few times in the birds nest. Great escape. Beautiful, unique place. Highly recommend.

The views are amazing. I love the different accommodation options. A little cold at nighttime as the heater had a timer on it which is understandable but would have been nice to have it on low during the night.

Loved our experience back in winter 2020! Although they have it closed this winter season, I'd like to go back again. I hope you open during winter again.

Incredible little get away. James (the owner and creator) is so lovely. The space is beautifully kept, the meeting place yurt is amazing and the individual cabins are so beautiful. I will definitely be going back.

Such a great spot. We stayed in the barn and it was awesome. We also enjoyed the gathering place with all the families we were with. The staff were great as well.
