Ordered Hunter Douglas custom window shades through Costco. An independent third party designer came and gave me a quote.Costco sent me the purchase order and I paid.Another third party installer came and installed it.There was a couple of issues.Issue #1: The installation wasn't done as per to their instructions on their own installation manual. The installer saved on the number of brackets for larger windows.Issue #2: The gap between the edge of the window and the shade varies drastically, some were as low as 10mm and some were almost 28mm.Didn't have a clue on who to call. First called the designer who gave me the quote. She said to call CIS Canada Ltd. I had no idea who they were and found out later that CIS was the one behind this whole custom installation through Costco. But nothing was obvious. After contacting CIS, they came back and said the gaps are within the manufacturer's tolerance guideline and can't do anything. When I contacted CIS I particularly asked them what is the manufacturer's tolerance guideline for the gap and where is it documented. They had no clue about manufacturer's tolerance guideline and when they came back and told me it is under the tolerance, they couldn't point out to any official document that says that.Till today, Hunter Douglas wouldn't tell me what is their official tolerance guideline for the gap and where it is published. It seems they purposely don't want to publish it so that they can always give a vague answer like this.Costco collected their commission and was completely hands off. I ordered through Costco believing they will stand with me for any issues that may come up with the third party. I only believed in Costco, not any third party. But I was disappointed with the way Costco handles the third party custom orders.Next time when you order any third party custom installation confirm with Costco, if they will stand behind you for any issues that may come up.

for such an expensive blind it's unbelievable how cheaply made it is! the plastic toggles at the end of the string constantly break. also, they are not precisely/carefully measured so that with the blackout blinds there is so much light coming in along the sides that we had to get panels made! we moved in to a house with some windows already covered with hunter Douglas but because we did not purchase them, the warranty does not apply. and if you do have a big problem the is warranty covered you have to pay for the shipping to get it fixed! would never recommend them.

Between February 2017 and February 2018 we bought three Hunter Douglas Duette Lite Rise Top/Down Bottom Up blinds for three different windows at a total cost of about $3,500. Since then one of the blinds has failed twice and another once, in each case caused by problems with the thin plastic cords. The third blind is ok, probably because we're now too nervous to open it. The blinds look wonderful, but they are poorly designed, the cords far too thin to bear the weight of the blind. We were told that sunlight weakens the cords ... well, one of the chief reasons to buy blinds is to keep out sunlight! And we live in Canada, not the tropics. It's pointless to get them repaired repeatedly, especially as one must pay shipping each time. And a service call costs $180! Never again.

I bought 5 motorized rollers for my blinds. After experiencing some issues for the first 3 years Hunter Douglas and attempting to resolve them with my dealer, I approached the head office and quoted the 5-year motorized warranty. Hunter Douglas was true to their warranty and complimentary replaced my motors and blinds. The customer service directly from Hunter Douglas was great! My only regret was not working with their head office sooner! Thank you! I am now a VERY satisfied Hunter Douglas customer and recommend the company to all of my family and friends. I love the ability to synchronize them with google home!

I have about 20 sets of Honeycomb Hunter Douglas blinds. They were installed in 2001 and have been well maintained. however the cords break on a continuous basis. In the past I have been able to have my local dealer re-string for free or nominal cost. Now I am being told that it is $55.00 plus shipping and taxes.I tried to get cord from Hunter Douglas so that I could re-string myself (a five minute task). Neither the local dealer or Hunter Douglas can provide me with cord. What ever happened to customer service? Getting parts for their product should be simple, now I will be giving my business to another manufacturer.

They abandon their customers after 7 years. The cords break regularly. Originally, the dealer shipped them back for repair. Then the dealer began to charge for shipping. Then the dealer stopped altogether. After that, we had to drive to the Mississauga location to get the blinds repaired. As of 2016, they stopped providing this service. Now we need to learn how to do it ourselves. Even here Hunter Douglas won't help by selling us the necessary cords in bulk. We had to find them on Ebay.Would not recommend these blinds and am extremely sorry I bought so many. The blinds are very expensive. Although they work fine for awhile, the strings and pull cords inevitably break, after which you have blind that does not operate.

I purchased Hunter Blinds ten years ago. When I considered the price I felt they were very high but with a lifetime warranty eventually it would pay off. One of the problems with blinds is the 'strings' that wear out. Hunter Douglas has a warranty on everything but the strings- their 'lifetime ' warranty on the strings is 7 years. I dealt with Wiggers Draperies in Edmonton and when I took the blind to them they said they would repair the blind free of charge because 'that is what a lifetime warranty is'... I am very pleased with the service from Wiggers but we are remodeling our house right now and I said I would not buy Hunter Douglas blinds if they were a dollar apiece. An Alberta Company has to honour Hunter Douglas' product. On the site it says lifetime Warranty'... there is no * saying read the fine print. Next call is to the Better Business Bureau. Hunter Douglas is a rip off!!!"

Summary: The Hunter Douglas Duette Literise shades have garbage mechanisms in them that will fail with regular use. Hunter Douglas warranty customer service is absolutely shameful. Details below:We have owned the Hunter Douglas Lite-rise blinds for about 10 years. On the blinds that we regularly use, the mechanisms that keep the blinds up have failed in every one of them. The first set that was repaired has now failed again. The mechanism is clearly not durable enough for regular use.Even though the blinds have a lifetime warranty, it is an absolutely aggravating experience trying to get warranty work done on them (now our 4th time having to do this in 10 years). Because we bought the blinds through Sears, I have to call Hunter Douglas to get any warranty work done. After a 20 minute call this morning, the Hunter Douglas agent told me where to take the blinds for repair. I asked the agent if I needed a warranty repair number or anything like that (since we have needed it in the past), and he said that I didn't. He stated that I could take the blinds to the repair place and they would take care of the warranty claim. He also said that if I had any future warranty issues, I could contact the company that does the warranty repairs directly instead of contacting Hunter Douglas for warranty assistance.I then drove 45 minutes (hour and a half round trip) to take the blinds to the company that does the repairs. When I dropped of the blinds, the person working there said I needed a warranty repair number, otherwise they would charge me $35 to contact Hunter Douglas to get the warranty repair number if they need to do it. I'm not sure why the Hunter Douglas agent said I didn't need a warranty repair number, when I clearly did (or else be out of pocket $35).As a side-note, that last time I called about a warranty repair, the agent gave me some misinformation also (although I can't remember what is was now).So..... I called Hunter Douglas again. The recording on the Hunter Douglas warranty line said it would be an approximately 30 minute wait. I had the option of giving a callback number and an agent would return my call when available. I took the callback option, however I gave up hoping that I would receive a callback after an hour and 10 minutes. Instead, I have called back again. It's increased to a 50 minute wait. I've now blown about 4 hours of my day dealing with this and it's not over yet.Oh yeah, and it would cost me $75 if I want to have the blinds shipped back to me to save an hour and a half drive to pick them up.I don't recommend getting these blinds unless you want to have a similarly frustrating experience down the road...
