The Marathon Hotel Est 1871

Grand Manon Island is a unique place and the Marathon Inn is likely the most unique building on the island! Amazing architecture! The Inn is steeped in history that is worth reading about in itself!Rooms are clean and nice. Owners are pleasant and helpful.The atmosphere created by this place is second to none. Love the old charm. Walk to shops and the ferry. Fantastic harbour views. Someone mentioned in another post that if you are looking for a modern hotel…..not only is this not the hotel you want, but this island is not the destination for you. Well said. For us…..unspoiled scenery. Friendly people on the island and a fantastic stay and experience at Marathon Inn.

We just spent three nights at the Marathon, our first visit to Grand Manan. The owners, who comprise essentially all the staff couldn’t possibly have been nicer, friendlier, or more helpful. They’re doing a lovely job of renovating an historic old hotel, and making it charming and comfortable. The breakfast room, with its morning sun and soft piano music was a perfect way to start the day. Fresh sea breezes kept the rooms comfortable at night. Bathrooms are fully redone with modern fixtures. Vintage furniture in the bedrooms are perfectly suited to the age of the facility. If you require giant beds with the amenities of chain hotels, the rooms will perhaps not suit you. We however were delighted.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Marathon Hotel. The owners are working hard to restore it in keeping with its history. It’s a work in progress and the completed rooms are cozy and comfortably breezy on hot nights. Breakfast Is the only meal available at this time and the lovely dining room is a wonderful place to start your day. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful - we had a sense of visiting friends. If you’re looking for every modern amenity (ala Holiday Inn), this isn’t your place. If you would prefer charm and a warm, genuine welcome, book a room! We found the Marathon to be the perfect place to call home on this beautiful island!

The view, atmosphere, and staff were great. Although there were not enough staff I didn’t feel like left out. It was clean and bathroom was pretty good size. I would definitely stay here again.

My sister and I absolutely loved the Marathon Hotel! We stayed in the family room B which was really quiet, roomy and very clean. The sheets smelled so nice and fresh too! The wifi was excellent and they have roku TVs so we could log in our Netflix account. The yard is big and beautiful, there’s free parking and there’s a pool! There are a few common rooms inside and they also offer breakfast.I highly recommend the hotel for anyone who loves old buildings and antiques. It has so much charm and it’s peaceful and quiet! Owners are so sweet as well.It’s close to the Ferry and nearby there’s cute shops, a nice museum, a coffee shop and sweet spots to walk around.Grand Manan is like a little paradise, and staying here was very cozy and relaxing!

We first stayed at the Marathon Inn when I was returning to the island to close on a house. I love everything about this hotel. It is steeped in history and the owners do well in maintaining its original charm.We returned to the Marathon Inn a few weeks later for what was to be a three nights stay while we waited for our furniture to arrive. This turned into eight nights and the owners couldn't have been more accommodating. We had a beautiful two-bedroom combination in the Captain's Quarters. This became ou4 home away from home while we waited for the moving van. In addition to all its charm the hotel is extremely clean and the rooms are well maintained. Given the age of the hotel (the oldest continuously run Hotel in New Brunswick) it is obvious the owners take pride maintaining its history.I would definitely stay there again if necessary and have friends or family stay when they visit the island.Thank you Al & Napa

We came to this hotel twice, 2018 and 2023. The owner was really nice and honest. The room is clean. Very good experience, will come back again next time.

The Marathon Inn was able to accomodate a last minute booking which was fantastic as I had to stay unexpectedly on the island overnight.

I was a little leary, of course, we all hear about ghosts and old places, but lets face it, it makes it more intriguing! To my delight, this place was extremely clean and comfortable. The host was very professional and accomdating. It truly made my stay at Grand Manan exceptional and I would stay there again.
