We took the extended guided tour, and Paul, our guide, was amazing.

Excellent museum and great value for a by-donation entrance. A good balance between the little-known history of Canada’s corrections system, and exhibits that humanize the inmates and focus on their daily lives. It was also great to chat with the former corrections officer who now volunteers with the museum. He had many interesting and valuable insights. We particularly enjoyed the section of inmate’s art, the level of talent was incredible. Thank you to the inmates for loaning their art to the museum.

This is nice museum just across Kingston Pen. Entry is by donation so you can’t go wrong. They have six rooms with various exhibits related to Canadian prison history.

Interesting and original items. Some history as well and a good glimpse into life behind bars and some people who lived this life on both sides. Enjoy. Free admission, there is a souvenir shop and they would appreciate donations.

So interesting! We really enjoyed this museum. The crates of stuff the guards found over the years... Wow.

We went to the Museum on Monday July 17th after we did the Penn tour across this street. This museum has artfully captured curated artifacts from prison life. It is a must do after doing the Penn tour. Entrance has no fees, only donations accepted at the door. Too many great things to begin to mention at this museum. So professionally done. A lot of work and thought went into all of the displays. Do not miss it.!

Very interesting museum! The highlight for us was speaking with a volunteer there who had been a prison guard at Kingston Penitentiary. We spoke to this gentleman for almost 45 minutes and got a really fascinating perspective, complete with lots of wild stories from his time as a guard. (He also gave us some great tips for the rest of our trip through Canada.) The museum itself was very informative as well, but speaking to someone who experienced the Penitentiary first hand was really neat!

excellent addition to our Penitentiary tour the day before. We enjoyed listening to the history and stories as told by a retired guard, not sure if that is a normal occurrence. The exhibits are well laid out with good descriptions. Interesting to see the various methods that were used as punishment.
