Wilkinson Steel was first established in 1910 in False Creek with the original wooden structure still standing and considered a heritage building. The company eventually relocated to 888 Marine Drive where F.Cameron Wilkinson would commission a art installation to commerate the 60th anniversary of the Wilkinson Company. Gerhard Class created a enormous multi sided geometric hard edged Corten Steel sculpture. The seven thousand pounds of steel stands alone in front of the now closed Wilkinson Steel building. Gerhard mainly worked with steel and stone.Other works include the Centennial Fountain, Hastings Mill monument,Tuning Fork(UBC) and Cunningham Sundial. Much of Gerhards art in Vancouver was produced in the 1960's and 70s.Horizons was unveiled in 1970.
