Super helpful staff that welcomed an injured bird we found on our property. We felt happy leaving him there knowing he was in good hands

Chantal is kind, SUPER knowledgeable and does her best to help, despite having to stretch her resources to the max.A very worthy cause with amazing people I know personally. I wish 6 stars was an option.

Horrible experience!! May 1st 2020 Covid had the world upside down, access to everything was limited I found a baby squirrel at the side of my deck late in the afternoon. This squirrel was crying for help, Looking around I couldn't find a nest and mom was nowhere to be seen. my Local SPCA came out and were prepared to take him I had to ask, what are you going to do with him? they said. All wildlife rescue centers are at capacity and since he was very little and required his mother's milk the decision would have been to euthanize him. I didn't want to be responsible for the death of an innocent creature so I said I would look after him. The SPCA agent said okay and left I put him back where I found him an hour went by no mom 2 hours went by, at this point its getting dark out getting very cold and started to rain the poor little guy was still crying and was wet. I grabbed towels and bottles filled with warm water placed him in a decent sized cage and put another towel over the cage on a sheltered area of the deck, I left the door open on the cage so he ''WAS NOT HELD CAPTIVE'' Weeks later This guy is now 10-11 weeks old I come outside he wasn't in the cage so I assumed he had left and went his way I went to tend to my garden and fill the bird bath and feeder and saw this little squirrel on this giant evergreen branch. This guy went from the deck to the tree on his own. Since then this squirrel continued to live on my property he quit using the cage built a nest in a tree over my house, and dropped in every morning and I'd give him a peanut or walnut he'd stay there and ate it while I was standing there then he would go about his day. He has been around for a whole year and just enjoyed his presence and made me feel good knowing he has been independent and thriving seen him chasing other critters around in the yard and foraging for his own food. On April 26th 2021 I saw him again in the morning gave him has walnut watched him eat it then he went down in the grass foraging then that was the last time I saw him, On April 27-29 it was cold and raining observing this squirrel for a year I know he didn't like to come out and would stay in his nest or deep in the evergreen April 30th was gorgeous out he was nowhere to be seen, I reminded myself he is a wild animal and he's probably out and about. May 1st 2021 marks the one year he was rescued another beautiful day no sign of him I got worried and called SPCA and asked if they picked up a squirrel around my area close to my house they were surprised at the question said yes we did he was reported to have had an injury and looked to be malnourished I asked where is he now? They said he was at Hobbitstee. I called left a message regarding this squirrel 25 minutes later the owner of this refuge called me back I asked about the squirrel and she said yes he was brought in he has a respiratory infection, malnourished and has sustained an injury but didn't appear to be life threatening. This is where I see this person's unprofessional side. I responded almost in tears I was very worried about him and said he had been missing for days and missed seeing him every day he's kinda been like an family member that lives outside. This woman was so rude she cut me off and was offended that I even referred to this animal as family. Her exact words were ''he's a wild animal, he's not a pet, You do not own him, he's nothing to you he's his own entity. In shock I tried to explain the story about him and again she was so rude telling me what I did was wrong. This woman is so entitled and unprofessional with communicating. I've read the other low star ratings sums her up 100% Now she won't tell me if this animal will be returned where he was found instead enjoys having the upper hand and won't tell me out of spite I reported this behavior to MNRF

Thank you for taking the baby morning dove tonight. She/He was following me all afternoon and was falling on her back and sometimes not able to get back up. I was thankful that I was able to bring he/she to you tonight. Thank you for all the work you do

Chantelle and David are rare gems; they contribute to our planet on a daily bases by caring for wildlife, one animal at a time.Injured wild life, birds, and (non domestic) animals are treated, nursed; then returned back to where they were found. It is a blessing to have a safe place to bring injured wild life to. Each is valued, every life matters.(Supplies and donations are appreciated. )Thank you Hobbits tee!

i found a baby bird few weeks back, what happened was this bird was sitting by my shed. i waited a long time for another bird to come to it with no other bird came, i tried for 2 days after having him in the yard. all the other robins would just run around him, still no other bird came. i was calling around for a place with no luck.so i had this little guy in my shed at night (to keep him safe from predators)i had to feed him so i did so every 2 hours. still no luck finding anyone to help this little guy. i finally got hold of someone at this place. it took a day but they offered to take him and help him.the 4 days i had this little guy he imprinted on my heart lol. he was 3x the energy then when i found him and he was hopping around the lawn following me.since i dropped him off i have no idea how hes doingi have a love for animals and i wish i could work with them, but i dont know the path to take for that. i lack education ;)i thank this group of people for helping me and giving this little guy a better life. i was really worried about him losing his naturethey were full of smiles and professional.p.s the bird could be female i cant tell lolthanks again guys~A.T.

I just wanted to thank you for replying so quickly to my call and assisting us to transport a seagull that had an injured wing to your Wildlife Refuge. I hope our little friend is now safe and recovering.
