Vancouver Chinatown Millennium Gate
Yeah, I think I’d give this Chinatown a wide berth if you’re in Vancouver. Especially if you’re with children. There really isn’t much going on and it’s really rundown and not a nice place to walk. Even at 2pm on a sunny afternoon.

Interesting area to wander through, with lots of history which is clearly sign posted and displayed. It's like a step back in time. Although the further we ventured in, it seemed a bit shady. Met some lovely Police Officers who suggested we didn't go further East due to the safety in that area.

I love visiting Chinatowns wherever I travel but I strongly discourage anyone from visiting Vancouver Chinatown. Although the gate and architecture is beautiful, it felt really unsafe with so many homeless and manic people around. The shops and food were fantastic but it just doesn't feel worth the danger.

My family walked into this area totally by accident when we were strolling through Gastown. We wondered what we had strolled into. This place really looked like it can be very dangerous at times. And it looked like it was once upon a time a thriving place to be.I have always thought Vancouver was such a beautiful city. In fact it was once ranked the most livable city in the world. What has happened? Why no one cared that this place has such great potential to be a major tourist attraction and great place to live?

There are some beautiful things in this neighborhood and some not so beautiful graffiti. The area was probably once very amazing but is very dirty with a lot of panhandlers. I would still go see it. There are no tickets needed to walk the historic streets of the neighborhood and an all day city bus pass is $11 and will drop you right by the gate.

Chinatown is a national historic place to visit. I loved the millennium gate which is an amazing art structure. This gate commemorates the history of the Chinese community in Vancouver. The buildings are old but has beautiful architecture that dates back 1889, 1909 and 1921.For traditional Chinese food craving, there is the New Town Bakery and Jade Dynasty Restaurant, both are Hongkong style cafe serving delicious food. After lunch, I walked to explore the place but got the chills when strangers follow begging for money and felt unsafe. Decides to leave soon.

Ok this is a tough one. Every shop and restaurant we went into the staff and owners were so nice. The food and tea was great. But the homeless population and blatant drug use in the middle of the sidewalk in broad daylight will keep us away for now. It would be nice if their police force would do their job and protect the citizens who work hard to pay taxes for these streets and sidewalks and their salaries.

Gate wasn't bad.But overall the Chinatown area was rundown. The area has a potential for a great tourist spot and being one of the largest chinat towns in North America,l expected a lot from the place .This area of Vancouver is in dire need of renovation to regain its glory and attract tourists.Personal tip- If travelling solo especially as a female, try avoiding this area for safety as there are many homeless and maniacs all around in there. You won't feel safe walking there all alone.tc.

Magnificent structure, the gate celebrates the history of the Chinese community in Vancouver. On its eastern face the gate bears Chinese characters reminding onlookers to “remember the past and look forward to the future.” On the western face characters say “Chinatown Millennium Gate.”
