Dollar Car Rental - Halifax International Airport

My daughter and her husband got to the airport across the country to attend a funeral and they refused to give her the car she had booked. We had called to verify that she could get a car with her Graduated license, yet when she showed up to pick up the car the supervisor Amy refused. Even speaking with a supervisor from the head office did nothing. The only thing they could offer to “make it right” was to offer her a free day on a car they wouldn’t give her…

I booked with dollar car rental through Hotwire. After flying a redeye flight across the country to travel to my grandpas funeral, Dollar REFUSED to give me the car I paid for. They claimed my drivers license was not valid (which it is valid), I pointed out it was just from another province and explained how drivers licence system is different there and they still refused. I explained how I had been renting cars for years and internationaly rented cars and have never had a problem. Still she refused. She claimed it was a Nova Scotia law/policy, which is not true which I pointed out. She then said it was a Dollar Car Rental Policy, which again was not true as I have rented with them before as well. I argued that neither of those policies" were true. I asked for my money back

Never renting with them again. The customer service is downright atrocious. They did not inform us of the full price for the vehicle and charged us a considerable amount 3 days after we had the ride. When we called them, a person picked up and muted himself. If you can’t talk right now do not pick up our call? Called again later and dealt with a very rude representative who kept ignoring everything we were trying to say. Very frustrating experience.

I booked a 10 day economy car Sep 26- Oct 6. My wife and I have been loyal Thrifty/Dollar clients for many years. Website is very nice and user friendly. Will update afterwards. Sept 26/19. A huge thank you to Dollar/Thrifty for the free upgrade * WOW ! * a 2019 Dodge Challenger fully loaded w leather interior, Alpine 506 watt stereo, sunroof, keyless entry, heated / vented seats, XM radio and Navigation. Excellent start to my 10 days in Halifax. Loyalty certainly has it's perks at Dollar/Thrifty car rental. Update Oct 6 /19 . Once again the Stanfield airport Dollar / Thrifty car rentals location provided an exceptional vehicle that was clean and fully equipped. A huge thank you to all the staff from pick up to drop off, all very professional and courteous as always. I would rate this location absolutely 5 stars and I highly recommend.

We had the worst experience with this rental company.There was a big mix up with picking up our vehicle, and they were completely rude and unreasonable to work with. We ended up eating the cost of the rental, even though we were never able to get our vehicle. We would have been stranded for a week at the airport, if we hadn't paid for a second vehicle ,with a different company.I would never deal with this company again! Worst rental experience of our lives!

The location experience was 5 stars. The online booking was disappointing, vague, unclear, consequential, so make that 2.5 stars. We booked a pick up and return to the same location. When we called the 800 number to speak with a human to request a change the rental return location, it was accepted and confirmed; when we checked back online and with the local office it wasn't there. We had already made a week's plans around the separate drop off location. Yeah there's a global rental car shortage, but for this experience we found Enterprise online booking unreliable. After reading the reviews and about clients previous experiences being declined for having a GDL drivers licence I called dollar rent a car customer service to ask about the policy and procedure on GDL licenses. The agent proceeded to tell me if I have a valid drivers license it would not be an issue to rent the vehicle and was ready to book my rental. I ask her to please clarify the policy and procedure to ensure that I would in fact be able to rent a car with my license because I am not sure she understood what I was asking. And she told me that no for whatever reason my GDL license would not be accepted. Im not sure if this is an actual policy or if your customer service agents just come up with ideas on the spot when they do not know the actual answer. But as you can imagine id be pretty scrooed if i flew all the way to Nova Scotia and was not able to get a rental. There is no information online about this policy either. I wonder how many people have had their vacation plans ruined because of this.

Rented a car here for 5 days. Agent was very helpful while renting. Agent upon our return was a superstar drove us to departures and after realizing we forgot a bad he 1. confirmed it was in the car and 2. met us halfway for pickup.

NEVER rent with this company. We rented a car here for May 24th-28th, 2023 for a holiday, but only ended up using the car until the 25th as we had to fly back home due to a family medical emergency. Upon return of the rental we were told to contact Expedia for a partial refund as the holiday was booked through Expedia. Once I contacted Expedia, they informed me the car rental company refused to provide a partial refund for the unused days even after offering to provide medical documentation for the emergency. Upon pressuring Expedia again the rental agency offered a refund amount of $385.14 when I was charged $1,375.80 in total. Which means they charged me about $1000 for using the car for 2 days. While the hotel and airline was able to provide a fair partial refund the car rental agency refused. I would give a negative rating if possible for having no compassion.
