First Step Mandarin

I had been self studying Chinese on and off about 5 months prior to enrolling in First Step Mandarin beginner's level 2 class back in January 2020.Now I am in intermediate level 4.A huge thanks to our teacher Lucy and the support teacher/founder Yo.I can tell teacher Lucy spends a lot of time preparing for our class every week.I like the fact that Lucy not only uses a textbook but also youtube videos and other materials to keep us entertained. ( Coz you know textbooks can be pretty boring sometimes!)Our classroom atmosphere is very casual and they encourage us to participate and learn from our mistakes.Every week we are given homework. Some of it is very challenging, but in a good way.Currently our class is being offered online only but I don't really mind it. It works great!If you are just starting to learn Chinese, I highly recommend First Step Mandarin. Lucy will teach you the tones very good!If you are intermediate, get ready to spend a good few hours doing your homework every week! You might also get asked to sing during the class, in Chinese of course!

I took the online beginner's course, and it was wonderful! Yang Laoshi is a great teacher; she's very personable and makes each class fun and engaging! The content and the way it's presented made learning Mandarin feel very doable, even to a beginner like me. It has provided me with a great foundation for learning Mandarin in the future and has helped me communicate better with Mandarin-speaking people in my life. Absolutely would recommend First Step Mandarin to anyone who wants to learn Mandarin!!!

I have taken several classes with First Step Mandarin, both in person and online. Every teacher has been excellent and it's obvious they really want the students to succeed. They make great efforts to answer questions and to focus on areas where the students ask for help. Classes are challenging but fun and I've learned so much. When I started I knew literally one word of Mandarin and that was fine, there were other students at the same level as I was. I will be continuing my education with First Step Mandarin as they've been amazing at supporting my language learning.

Absolutely recommend First Step Mandarin to anyone interested in learning the language! Even with little background in Mandarin, classes were engaging and easy to follow.In contrast to language courses I've taken before, which often felt like a chore, I looked forward to getting to spend time with Lucy and the others in the class. The small class size made it easy to get to know people, and the fun activities in class made each session really enjoyable.Lucy the teacher is absolutely fantastic as well. She's so friendly and funny, and does a great job at teaching!So glad I took this course and am so excited for future courses with first step mandarin!

We have had such a great experience with First Mandarin School, my daughters teacher Ms.Yvonne along with director Yo. Not only has our daughter (age 5) shocked us in her ability to learn a new language, she has been given the confidence to explore new things in other aspects of her live. Ms.Yvonne comes ready with exciting and relevant materials for our daughter to use that keeps her engaged and encouraged. Our daughter looks forward to seeing Ms. Yvonne’s friendly face each week and we look forward to continuing with the school for further success in developing her mandarin. If you were considering having your child learn Mandarin this is the school to use.

I have been taking the intermediate level Mandarin Chinese group class for about 4 months now. Thoroughly enjoyed all the lessons so far. Lessons are designed so that students can improve their reading, listening, writing and speaking equally. Course instructors are attentive to student feedback and adjust/modify lesson format to suit students' needs. Strongly recommend First Step Mandarin for anyone with an interest in the language!

I want to take a few mins to Thank Olivia for teaching our sessions. As a true beginner she worked at our classes pace. We covered a lot of material and she made sure to clarify when things seemed confusing. I am so excited I took this chance to start learning a new language and I can't wait to keep learning! This was my first time learning a new language (since grade school French), and First Step Mandarin offered a great class! The teacher was friendly and encouraging, and the course materials were engaging. I will definitely continue my studies with First Step!
