Heartwood Centre for Women

This treatment center is for serious drug addiction only., and NOT for trauma or PTSD. There is no councelling or one-on-one at all except for one worker you may be lucky enough to see once every week or two to discuss the problems you are having at Heartwood. Its focus in on giving massive amounts of medication only and increasing the amounts are encouraged. There is a psychiatrist there, and when i was at this center, everyone who went to see her was diagnosed with bi-polar and given even more medication. The nurses are there only for giving medication, there is no support, therapy, help with any of your issues and your self-esteem may be at risk and any requests for further or outside councelling will likely be denied. There are some badly run group classes (which is the only thing the councellors actually do) and i got a lot more out of reading books on dbt and cbt. They say they are holistic, the food is all high carbs and sugary sauces and deep fried foods. If you are a smoker you will love this place as you are free to go out and smoke unlike the non-smokers. if you do quit smoking do not expect help and you will find its better for your well being to keep smoking. The one good thing at heartwood is the acupuncturist., the only truly heartfelt and caring person. Hearwood is heartless, sorry to say and i think the government should not waste its money on such drug induced non personal and zero therapy treatments. if you need help with withdrawal from drugs this place could be allright but i imagine there are detox centers that would maybe be more caring. I find it sad and heartbreaking that places like this are funded.

Was here for a month. Staff are pretty neglectful. I was told there was daily counselling and doctor visits. I never saw either. I was in a really bad place with no one to talk to and wasn’t helped. One of the ladies there made a formal complaint against one of the staff members and that got her kicked out. I ended up ditching the centre and became a missing person on east Hastings for 3 days and almost died. When I came to collect my things the staff told me they watched the other women rob me of most of my belongings and didn’t do anything cause it isn’t there responsibility. Definitely wouldn’t recommend. Hope this place gets what’s coming. Seems like the staff are only there for pay checks. It’s sad as hell. I wish everyone who is sick the best.

It was a awsome program, great stuff. I loved it because it was none religious and none step program treatment. I love how it was trauma basiced

Best treatment center I ever had the opportunity to attend I did the 90 day residential program at HW and I now work as a peer in Harm reduction and research because of it I did all the homework and I use everything I took away I apply to my life daily to tell my story and inspire others to take the same paths for a quality of life that' shines new opportunities everyday and I walk on keeping more stronger on my wonderful new journey it has been 6+ years since I walked out of there and I have not stumbled once.

Terrible place if you want help and have a Bipolar disorder among other things. They will take you off your meds and make you have a mental breakdown and then release you for leaving the facility when your not detained in anyway. I have asked for a review of this particular case. Hope fully it will help save some future lives.

Completely changed my life for the better. I have ptsd and substance use issues in my past and heartwood was the only place that worked for me.Nurses were 24 hour and there whenever I needed to talk. I saw a therapist once a week and could make appointments with the physician. They help you quit smoking although I smoked while I was there off the property. I learned coping skills for my negative habits and behaviors. The staff is super nice and understanding. You really need to want it though. It's 3 months. The first 2 weeks you focus mostly on getting comfortable and prepared for what's ahead. I highly recommend this program. They even helped me get connected with a dentist who could help me and because of my social anxiety, they let someone come with me to my appointments.I used to have flashbacks everyday and now I have them once a month but most importantly I know how to cope with them. I also was a cutter and it's been years since I last cut. Graduating this program was my proudest moment. Art therapy and acupuncture were my favorite classes.
