The young lady behind the counter was excellent. Excellent food and hot chocolate.The low reviews for this coffee shop further highlights the pretentiousness that Nelson is slowing making the norm. No one cares how much money you have in your bank account or what vehicle you drive. If you can't treat people properly, you don't get to whine on a public forum.I can guarantee those customers came in with an inflated ego and think they're more important than the actually are. If they didn't get their food instantly and EXACTLY the way they wanted, they'll whine. Stop being a Karen towards customer service employees and you'll get better service in return. Crazy how that works.If you're stopping through Nelson, definitely give this place a try!

It is over 2 years now that I go with my client on a weekly basis to Railtown Coffeehouse, and we are always received with friendliness and care. In addition, Ashley seeing us coming in, starts preparing my client favorite coffee, if she isn't already busy with other people orders. This is one of his favorite coffee shop to go. It is not hectic and noisy as most other coffee shops in town and we appreciate greatly the relaxed atmosphere and Ashley's personalised service.

I used to go there all the time. she used to be really friendly and coffee was good. We went closer to closing and she was quite rude- coffee was also undrinkable…think she was frustrated that we came in the last hour for a coffee, won’t be going again.

The lady behind the counter of the cafe was unneccesarily rude and cold. Coffee is decent though and quiet atmosphere so it is a shame. I asked politely for a glass of water and she brashly handed me a glass, almost slamming it on the counter with no words, even after I said thank you. As a longtime local resident, it is very rare to get such unfriendly service.

UNBELIEVABLY RUDE!!!!After reading theses posts this makes more sense. This woman was absolutely the most facetious person I've ever come across. I asked how they made their decaf and her response was we put coffee in filter and let hot water pour over it and coffee comes out" with a straight face and pretentious attitude. It's remarkable businesses like this stay a float. My prediction is that this business will fail just like the sale of my coffee. Avoid at all cost!"

The first experience was greeted with rude and unprofessional service. She was obviously not enjoying her work there. I decided to give the place a second chance so I went down the next day. I was received again with rude service. I’m not sure why this is the case but if you want a pleasant experience for coffee… not recommended.

A truly disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived it was apparent the owner did not want to assist us. She was impatient as we placed our order and, when servings us our drinks, she could not have been any more rude. What a way to welcome my family to Nelson. Let it be known that this coffee shop is not associated with the visitor's centre and the kind people that work there.

The person working was very cold. I was excited to be at a cafe by the rails and this encounter tainted the experience. I sat and uncomfortably drank am ok americano. I was here at lunch time and there was nobody else in the cafe. During my visit two others came through and were served with the same coldness. It’s a beautiful space and it looks like there are decent treats - the reason for two stars. It’s a real shame that the service was so off putting... I am new to town and am looking for a regular spot.

I’ve been in a few times, and found the owner quite rude, coffee is mediocre. I thought I would give it another chance, maybe she was having a bad day, but she is consistently rude, short and has a very unfriendly vibe. It’s too bad because that’s the only coffee shop on the way out of town. Looks like I’ll go to A&W instead for the coffee at that end of Baker, at least they are nice there.

Great place to grab a cup of coffee upon arrival into downtown Nelson or even just looking to grab something for the drive home. Never a fight for parking and best of all, you don't need to make sure you have change in your pocket to pay to park. I've been there three times now and Ive always been greeted with a smile and friendly hello. I have only lived in the Kootenays a short couple of months, but it's places like this that help keep the small town magic alive for me. The owner not only greets me at the door, but greets me by name. Coming from a busy town previously.... you just don't get servive like it. She's not only remebred my name but has remembered where I moved to and makes sure to ask me how it's going!Thanks for remembering me, it will keep me coming back!
