I have completed 2 transactions with Carson Law and both times have had a great experience with them. Both Ryan and Sarah are great to work with, they are knowledgeable and experienced. And their staff is timely, efficient and very friendly. Carson Law got the real estate transaction done, but there were a few hiccups. We had about 4-5 people constantly cc'ed on our file, and were getting different replies from different team members throughout the process. We were also getting phone calls from different team members, and it seemed any update we provided on the phone wasn't being relayed to the team (even though we asked).All in all, we felt they could have been much more transparent with their fees. By telling a client their legal fee is $450, but somehow racks up to a total of $2,700 isn't honest or direct (as we figured disbursements and things like title searches were all constant across firms). There were also fee discrepancies between their e-mail response and the contract drafted. We had quotes from other lawyers who were much more upfront and told us it would be in the range of $2,100-$2,300 which we would have taken had we known.

We have worked with Carson Law on many transactions the last few years and have always been very happy with their services. The team is always quick to respond and we always feel very supported.

Impeccable attention to detail is how I'd describe our interaction with Carson Law. Shawn was integral in the transaction of our home sale. Any sense of confusion on our part was quickly addressed by Ryan and Shawn quickly and efficiently. In the lead up to our Settlement Conference Sarah said that a weakness of our case was causation. Yet, she seemed to think we were fine to go to the conference without a report from an expert which would have assisted with establishing causation. Instead she let us go the conference and be offered the sum of $1,500, a fraction of the amount we were seeking. Then she asked us to get the expert report immediately AFTER the settlement conference. To say this was an error in strategy is an understatement. An error at our expense. This is one of several competence issues we experienced.Ryan was courteous when I spoke with him about Sarah’s performance. Apparently they leave the refund of fees up to the lawyer. Needless to say, I will be filing a complaint with the Law Society of Ontario.UPDATE - The response from the firm below is in line with the response I received when I initially addressed the incompetence. Essentially you have provided a non response. If you were truly interested in not repeating the same mistakes, you would work with me to understand and respond to the concerns noted in my correspondence with your office.I note that you have qualified my complaint as a matter of the lawyer’s “approach” even though I have explicitly said that it is a matter of competence.
