Budget Car Rental

Great and very helpful team. Book in process was very fast and straight forward. I'd booked in advance which helped, though complicated immensely by the offer of a whole host of additional charges that while optional one felt obliged to buy 'just to be sure'. I just wish these car rental companies give you a simple flat rate all inclusive quote on their websites when booking and without surprises on the day. I ended up paying about 40% more than the original booking quote which in my view was excessive for what it was - hence 3 stars!

I would never go there again, they canceled my order when I was trying to pick up the car and left me with no help in that situation whatsoever. Despicable

Tried to rent a moving van for our upcoming move to Calgary. But unfortunately Budget does not rent one way moves anymore. But thankfully I was able to get a van at a reasonable rate with UHaul that allows one way drop offs.

Great service today from Laura. She was very generous sharing local knowledge of the roads with me, which is invaluable at this time with road closures caused by forest fires. Thanks again

These people are really honest. I got the young guy from England and he was super helpful and friendly. Gave me such a nice SUV to drive in and he even found scratches before I drove off to protect me. Never have I have that honestly and good service from a rental company, not in Canada, Europe, Australia, or Asia. Thank you!!

We had a rental car through a icbc claim and someone hit us in the real car and they were found at fault 100% and we were charged a 100.00 administration fee" I called about this fee they agreed to give me back 15.00 and would have a manager call me back the next day which never happened. Never contacted me again.. Horrible service will never be going back or recommending.."

Please do your research before attempting to rent a car here. Rental car agents are going to add on large fees given your age and license status. This on top of their usual fear driven tactics to add additional coverages.Probably the best place for you to start is to get a credit card that covers LDW (supplementary insurance coverage) as part of membership benefits. This way when you go to rent a car you can tell the agent you have this coverage and it usually disarms them that you have done this before. You want to show the rental car agent a card that requires good credit to further disarm them. You will be more likely to get an upgrade this way also.Next, use discounts through Groupon or Aeroplan as there are a number of discounts available through both. Using Priceline is another way to get a lower rate if you don't need a specific vehicle and they even have age ranges if you are under 25 for renting in Vancouver.Do not approach a rental car company just by walking in to rent unless you are reserving down the road or have ICBC/private insurance coverage after a damage or loss of use claim. If you choose to do this, be prepared to negotiate hard and get all kinds of fear based sales tactics. This is only for seasoned negotiators but can net the odd good deal depending on the agent/company and obviously your credit card and other status the agent can profile under. For instance when they see I hold Aeroplan status and also multiple classes of licenses, they often treat me well.Finally make sure to take photos before you drive it off the lot and again, please do further research beyond reading here only to further protect yourself.

The problem with this place is they are the only game in town and have reverted to scamming customers by switching cars that were booked and then forcing upcharges into unwanted vehicles. This has happened to me once and now to 2 family members. It's always the same story. You book a midsize or compact a month or two in advance, and when you show up it is unavailable. You then get the choice of a minivan (who wants to vacation on Vancouver island in a minivan?), Or you can get a luxury car upgrade, normally 110 dollars more a day, but for you it is only 40 dollars more. What a scam!

Just a normal experience when I picked up the car in Victoria airport. The car we got was perfect for what we needed but they tried giving us a 4WD while we had booked a smaller car, trying to say because my flight delay, they didn’t have the car I wanted. Then magically the car I had booked appears as I was going to another car rental place! We returned the car in Parksville and that’s where the staff were super friendly. I suggest to Budget to take some of this small town customer service to Victoria and right across Canada.
