I saw Dr Nicole Smith for an exercise stress in Oct 2021 due to unexplained Tacchycardia and other symptoms. Her behaviour towards me was dismissive and she told me in our initial phone consult “don’t be so fixated on a POTS diagnosis you might just have anxiety”. During the exercise test (walking on a treadmill) my HR reached 193BPM. And my BP 180/100. She said in her notes I seemed anxious and was adamant I had POTS though she was not convinced. In follow up with my requested POTS knowledgeable cardiologist it is confirmed I do have POTS. Sadly I have never felt more dismissed and mistreated by a medical professional than I did with Dr Smith. Dr Smith is not well educated about POTS and this is hazardous, she does not understand the complexity of the symptoms and has a simplified view without knowledge of adequate testing (standing and sitting HR and BP which I requested and was denied). To clarify, according to Dysautonomia International only 30% of POTS patients experience fainting. Dr Smith used my lack of syncope as the main reason she claimed I did not have the condition I knew I had. Please do better for future patients Dr Smith. It is import to listen to patients.

I was referred by my OB doctor to Dr. Thompson due to chronic tension headaches and migraines. The front desk staff at this clinic are kind, personable, and caring. Dr. Thompson is so very kind, an incredible listener, and very understanding. I felt like my concerns were heard and addressed at our initial appointment and I was given options to try first that were not medication, in addition to things I was already trying. I love Dr. Thompson's approach to Internal Medicine - that medication is not necessarily the first course of action for an ailment, but rather something to try when other non-medicated modalities have not worked. I will continue to request to be referred to her for any further Internal Medicine needs I have in the future as she is a great doctor.
