I bought Krystal Blu from Boonieland Kennel in March 2020 when she was 5 years old. She had been used as breeding stock. She is my second Weimaraner. The first I bought as a puppy from a different kennel and lived to be 16. I had been told on the phone that Krystal Blu had been raised in the house. When I picked her up at the Boonieland Kennel she was brought into the farm yard too terrified to stand upright so crawled out to me where she immediately rolled over on her back. I decided to take her although my common sense said “No”. Linda said that she owned 15 Weims and from farm yard, it appeared that all 15 of them lived in a building about the size of a single car garage. Krystal Blu had a winter coat so assume “kennel” was not heated or cooled. I paid for her and lifted her into my car as she was unfamiliar with a car. When I got her home, she couldn’t walk up the stairs. She couldn’t walk on the wood floors. She was not house trained. She has been a challenge and she is fortunate that I’m retired and have time and money to devote to her recovery.I brought her to the vet to find she had worms, a broken tooth, a hernia. I also found she has hip dysplasia so is on arthritis meds for the rest of her life. She also had a lot of anxiety and is very needy. She nipped my Granddaughter in the butt. She bit me in the face when she was not feeling well. She has separation anxiety. She barked and growled at anyone coming into the house especially men. She was very protective of me when anyone was in the house. And she would be good around other dogs and then attack them for no apparent reason. I’ve had several vets say that she suffers from PTSD from her past life at the kennel.Good news is that after a year and allot of patience, she is doing so much better although still nervous. We walk 4 miles a day thru Minneapolis streets and friends can now come to my home now without being fearful. She still does not behave like all my other dogs have who I have raised from puppies. Would I buy another dog from Bonnie Kennel – No. Would I buy a puppy from them – No. Chica has hip dysplasia and the first 6 weeks of a new born’s life really molds their personality. Would I do this again – No but I am committed to her recovery and love her very much.
