Amazing place to go for some pictures or take your family for a learning experience. Plenty of ducks and geese that come right up to you and chance to see some rare birds. Worth multiple visits to catch a glimpse of the birds that come year round. You can take a lunch inside and it's fairly inexpensive and great for a day out. Don't forget to buy or bring some bird seed. Its $1 for a small bag at the sanctuary.

Most of the pictures and reviews here are for the Reifel Bird Sanctuary (5191 Robertson Rd). The address of this listing (5421 Robertson Rd) has different trails and hours than Reifel.

First thing to know: Alaksen National Wildlife Area is only open Monday to Friday. It is a lovely quiet place with well maintained trails to walk through a park-like setting next to farmland and river on Westham Island in Ladner.

Wonderful wildlife sanctuary area, many numerous different birds in the area. All the birds are very tame and lets you feed them. Went here during early spring and there was a large flock of snow geese.

Great place to be at any time of the year. This place is essentially a wild bird reserve that holds some of the most diverse bird species in Canada! In October, flocks of snow geese can be larger than 25000 in numbers! It is similar to a very easy and simple hiking trail with a watchtower and viewing areas along the way. Ducks and chickadee will be everywhere, and if you purchase some feed from the front desk you can feed them. This place is probably best enjoyed in the winter when there are the most birds. One small problem though: go to the washroom before you enter as there are next to no restrooms in the trails.

Walking among nature is fun for the entire family, children of all ages enjoy feeding the wildlife at bird sanctuary. Bring your own seeds or buy it from the gift shop. The fee to enter takes care of the protected area, no pets allowed. Call or book on line for entry.

My 91 year old Mother and I love to visit the bird sanctuary. The accessible trails make it possible for Mom to walk with her walker.
