Gate of Harmonious Interest
The Gate of Harmonious Interest marks the entryway to Canada's oldest Chinatown. Built in 1981 as an effort to preserve the Chinatown heritage. It was modelled after both the gateway of the Dunhuang Caves in China and the gate of Pingshan Hall in China. The roof is covered with golden glazed tiles, and decorated with Chinese supernatural creatures on the corner ridges. The two Chinese verses on the two front side-panels mean to work together with one mind" and "to help each other to achieve harmony.""
