Autonomous Furniture

My wife and I recently moved to Broadmead and I was looking for a desk but nothing original showed up until I found Autonomous and Kirk. I ordered the Odessa desk and it is the most striking piece of office furniture I have seen. Delivery was a bit of a challenge, but Kirk turned up with 5 colleagues, manhandled it down a long and steep flight of stairs, maneuvered it through a door only one inch wider than the desk, and finally put it in place. I get a real lift every time I go into my office area and see this piece of art. My wife is now browsing the website for a coffee table, so we'll no doubt be seeing Kirk and his gang very soon.

When I first moved to Victoria and had blinds installed and some updates done by Design One Stevens, the owner told me that I should contact Kirk Van Ludwig at Autonomous Furniture as she had told him about my place and my search for the right table.  I said 'thank you' but waited a year before contacting Kirk - having had other priorities in setting up a new home.But once I contacted Kirk and met him at my home, where he took great interest in creating a unique table design, and I visited his shop and met the Autonomous group - all extremely dedicated and talented people - I knew I had come to the right place.  Kirk designed a one-of-a-kind table and I also ended up buying a set of nesting tables that he had stained to my taste to match my decor.  Besides making a beautiful table, Kirk gave me design ideas which I followed up on.Although I am late in posting this review, I have to say that Autonomous makes beautiful furniture pieces that ship Internationally.  I feel privileged to have had this group design a table for me!

We recently moved into a smallish condo but love to entertain. Autonomous Furniture was recommended to us and once we visited with Kirk and saw his work, we stopped looking anywhere else. The custom dining room table he designed and built to fit our space is truly a piece of art and a centre piece for our new home.We so enjoyed our dining room table that we recently bought a Tillicum bench to match. Same outstanding craftsmanship.

I have recently working with Kirk and his amazing team at Autonomous on both a custom door for my new studio as well as table tops for a restaurant project we just completed in Victoria - Lot 1 Pasta Bar.Being able to discuss design ideas and work together to create the end product is so much fun with a wood artist like Kirk, and the results are beyond my expectations.If you want a custom piece of West Coast beauty in your home or project, Autonomous certainly delivers!

Kirk and his team were wonderful to work with - from answering questions to sending samples and carefully shipping an absolutely stunning coffee table! My clients love it and so do I! We had been searching for an 11 foot long dining table with no luck and happened upon the Autonomous Furniture showroom literally by chance as we walked by it. As we entered we were greeted by a friendly Kirk whose creative talents were apparent in every piece on his showroom floor. The superior workmanship of his team of crafts people, easily seen in each piece, demonstrated the high level of care and attention paid in the building process. We had entered a space where furniture does not just fulfil a function; it is art and can be enjoyed by simply looking at it.Kirk worked with us on options for the 11 foot table. He visited our home to view the space where the dining table would go. He wanted to ensure that he could build a table that would perform well for the intended use plus ad to the feel and look of our home. He and his team achieved both! We even had a viewing, more like a reveal, of the final table in the Autonomous showroom where we met Jodie, Kirk's wife and partner in Autonomous. We were amazed at how our dining table had become a show piece for our home.We picked an 11 foot long Jack style dining table made with whitened Ash wood. Adrian, the builder of our table and very good at his craft, dedicated the same care and attention to every detail of our table as he would have were he building it for himself. He also delivered and set it up in our home with another of the Autonomous team, Sparky. They were very careful; and did a great job. We also had the opportunity to hear from Adrian about how the wood pieces were selected and placed in the tableWe would highly recommend Autonomous Furniture. Kirk, Jodie and their team are amazing!

We needed a custom built breakfast bar to complete our kitchen renovation. We spend a lot of time at the breakfast bar with family and friends so we wanted it to be the centre piece. The folks at Autonomous took time to listen to what we wanted/needed and came to visit our kitchen as well. They provided thoughtful feedback and we finalized the design together. The final product was amazing! People are constantly remarking on it and asking where it came from. #nailedit

Really impressive work by the team at Autonomous Furniture. I love the Tillikum Black Bench I ordered and appreciated being able to customize the size to fit perfectly in our space.After searching extensively for a new desk and not finding anything I liked I spoke with Kirk about creating a new custom desk based on the Oddessa Desk. Kirk was great at realizing the changes I wanted to both allow it to be able to fit into my loft and match my own style. They did an amazing job on the desk and it turned out exactly as I was hoping.

Susan and I came to Autonomous Furniture last year because we were looking to purchase a custom made dining room table that would be the signature piece in our newly renovated great room.In addition to consulting extensively with Autonomous staff on the design, Kirk even visited our house mid-renovation to ensure that the table was the proper size for the dining space.The quality of the finished product is top notch and the design is a contemporary classic that will stand the test of time for years to time.We have since purchased three other pieces from Autonomous, including a Constantine table and a Tillikum bench.I would strongly recommend Autonomous Furniture for anybody looking for unique, hand-crafted pieces to showcase their homes.
