Dr. Robert Backstein MD

Dr. Robert Backstein botched my minimally invasive gynecomastia surgery very badly. The damage/irregularities he caused to my chest are permanent and will cost me $21,000.00 to just try to improve the look and the success of the revision surgery is of low probability. My chest muscles still hurt two years post surgery. He failed to remove my gland on the right side, didn't mark my body with a pen or go over the surgical plan with me. He liposuctioned all the way to my clavicle, armpit, edge of pec muscle and front shoulder. He did this more aggressively on the left side causing very noticeable asymmetry. I lost a good amount of muscle strength in my left pec muscle and front shoulder. The total amount of fat suctioned from both sides of my entire chest area was only 50 milliliters (10 teaspoons). If you google image search liposuction canister you will see fat floats to the top of the canister where it is measured everything else sinks. This fool scraped away type II muscle, fascia and important connective tissue.. Do not fall for his superficial charm, he is a malicious monster. After he has your money he will do whatever he wants to you. I made it clear what I wanted done and he did the exact opposite without my consent. Liposuction was only supposed to be done if there was unevenness after taking the glands out to feather the area around the nipples (not my entire chest). Humber River Hospital the hospital I had my surgery in didn't even have any pre-op rooms available; from the waiting area I was brought right into the operating room, disrobed and told to wait for Dr. Backstein to arrive.It was awkward standing there watching the nurses and anesthesiologist prepare for my surgery. When he arrived he only took a couple of poorly done photographs of my chest at extreme close ups and no photographs were taken from the sides, arms raised, arms behind back or flexing before putting me under the knife. He also lied to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and told them that he had marked me while I was awake and standing. When I made my complaint against him to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario they didn't even interview the nurses and anesthesiologist to ask them if they remembered me being marked up. Soon after when I told him I was going to sue he took down his website called Cosmetic Surgery Toronto and redirected all his visitors to his new site called The Centre for Minor Surgery. On his Cosmetic Surgery Toronto website Dr. Robert Backstein stated he was a fully qualified Toronto board certified plastic surgeon. Very soon I will have my website open to the public. I would like to say thanks to Dr. Robert Backstein. In Oct. 2021, I sent an email to Dr. Robert Backstein's office with questions for seeking the treatment options. With the great surprise, I received the email from Dr. Robert who answered all my questions by himself with great details. Later on, I sent more emails with additional questions and Dr. Robert always replied. During the communication, no any push from Dr. Robert or his office. What Dr. Robert has done is above and beyond. Thanks very much!

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Robert Backstein. Not only is he kind and soothing, but a professional with a lot of attention to detail and care. I had a procedure done and despite being terrified the first time coming in, his assistant Becky helped me feel very calm and took the time to explain what would be done and engaged with me in a very compassionate way. I would love to acknowledge Julie for her awesome customer care as well! Dr. Backstein is truly a wonderful surgeon. He takes his time with your procedures and asks you about your wellbeing throughout the whole thing. He answers your questions exceptionally and informs you of every detail. My experience was great!

Pleased to recommend Dr. Backstein and his team! Dr. Backstein performed two smalle surgeries with brilliant results. I expected some serious scarring, specifically on my arm, and was relieved at the almost non-existent hairline of a scar left! The doctor is very pleasant and makes you feel relaxed before and following the procedure. Compassionate and professional!

I chose Dr. Backstein for a gynecomastia procedure after meeting with several cosmetic surgeons in Toronto. When I met him, he was noticeably down to earth and thoroughly answered all my questions. I never felt pressured by him to do the procedure - he wanted to make sure it was the right decision for me. He always wore scrubs, even in the first consult, which to me was comforting and an indication that he wasn't going to be pushy or greedy. As agreed upon, he was conservative with his approach, so as to limit risk of necrosis that would increase with an overly-aggressive approach. After surgery, he was very responsive to my inquiries about bleeding and healing. The results were astonishing and truly noticeable after a few months. It was an excellent experience overall and I would recommend him for a cosmetic or minor surgery procedure.

Dr. Backstein was very professional and caring during my procedure. I had a cyst removal which I was quite worried about, but he continued to ask me if I was feeling okay during the operation, and the whole thing went smoothly without a hitch. His assistant was also very kind as well, and so I felt at ease throughout.The only thing is that the receptionist (Julie I believe) was relatively cold, and didn't really smile at all. I didn't feel welcomed by her, unfortunately. Otherwise, great operation. Thank you again!

Dr. Backstein is a truly wonderful doctor and surgeon. He did breast implants, tummy tuck and liposuction for me with really wonderful results. I am grateful to this doctor for his care and the results he was able to produce.

Dr Backstein recently removed a particularly atrocious granuloma from my lip. I could not be happier with the outcome, within 5 days it was almost entirely healed and I can see there will be no scar because he was meticulous in removal and stitching. He was very communicative, professional and transparent about what he could do and and potential outcomes. I would highly recommend.

Dr Backstein is a phenomenal doctor and just a great guy!!! He makes you feel comfortable . I'm 4.5 weeks after my surgery and so far I am happy with my results..He is a doctor that cares!!! Highly recommend him!!!
