British High Commission in Canada

This is a really beautiful place with great people! While they don't issue passports, visas, or do any consular work, they host some wonderful events and make every effort to help you where they can.

My husband was a UK Citizen he passed away wanted information on how to give his passport back directed me to a site. Still trying to figure out the site the person on the phone said it so fast and just wanted off the phone. I wanted the address to return the passport too in Ottawa since you are not allowed to go the the building itself.

I called the Consulate the other day to inquire about transit rules because there were some missing informations on their official website. I must say it was a total waste of time especially when you have to pay for their service in pound per minute. They sound pathetic with zero knowledge or active tool to give you an answer even if it’s a YES or NO!!!!!I call it a pure SCAM for the BRITISH CONSULATE! Please avoid if you can!

Very disappointing not to be able to get a UK red passport renewal application either from the High Commission here in Ottawa or on the website.

There is no way to speak to somebody unless you know their name and extension number - not helpful at all!

Absolutely appalling service. As a UK citizen in Ottawa, I needed some issues resolved. Impossible to speak to anyone. The phone number is just a circular run-around of automated options. There is simply almost no way to speak to any human being. When I finally got through to someone, I was told to use a contact form in a generic gov.uk site - the UK High Commission doesn't even have it's own proper website. After I used the contact form, I got back a generic cut & paste reply that just directed me back to the generic website. Separately, I saw the husband of the last UK High Commissioner, Stephane le Jeune d'Allegeershecque, have a screaming tantrum outside the diplomatic residence in Ottawa last year. This is the worst and most useless diplomatic entity and consular service I've ever encountered.

I recently attended a citizenship ceremony at the British High Commission in Ottawa. The staff that greeted us and performed the ceremony were wonderful - so kind, welcoming and professional. It was a very pleasant experience. Thank you all!

Not that knowledgeable or helpful.

I am writing to say a very big thank you for an exemplary service today. I cannot praise Jody highly enough. I lost my passport and was due to fly home this evening. I submitted the relevant documents and the Emergency Travel Document was issued within a very short space of time. It has been collected, and although I have had to rebook my flight by 2 days, the ease and efficiency and kindness of Jody have calmed me. Just thank you so much:)

All of my visits to the British High Commission in Ottawa have been useless and a waste of time. They are quite unhelpful and just direct you to different websites when you have questions.
