We just ate here. Requires to book in advance. Unique menu. However if you walk in you might be served.

My wife and I had an amazing dinner here. The best spetzle I have had outside of Germany. Reservations recommended. The place is also a B&B, it is an oceanside heritage home and looked like a great place to stay.

Rich history coupled with warm, accomodating hosts. The thorndyke is a registered heritage site and is filled with treasures from decades past. Overlooking the ocean, the Thorndyke bed and breakfast also serves as an elegant dining experience. Glynn, the owner as well as head chef, takes great pride in serving delicious hand prepared dishes that are sure to tantalize your tastebuds. The b and b is clean and cosy. The rooms are spacious, each with their own ensuite. Be sure to wander around as there are many antique treasures in plain sight. If this house could only talk oh the stories it would tell.

What a joke the place is. Had a reservation for my birthday supper. Showed up and the door was open….. but not a soul was there. The place was a mess. He advised us through his cousin that he sent us an email canceling our reservation…….NOT……We had to drive fifty kilometres to find somewhere else to eat. Not an enjoyable experience at all.

This place is a dichotomy - the restaurant is quite good, but the accommodations are sadly terrible. Based on the website and reviews, we had really been looking forward to our stay at the Thorndyke for the last night of an extended trip. We were hugely disappointed to find out that the room overlooking the sea that we had specifically booked months ago had been given to friends of the owners who were getting married. We were relegated to the back of the house to a room with no view at all, a tiny, grubby bathroom, and a bright street light shining into the window all night. Had we been told in advance, we could, and wold, have made other arrangements. The house itself was also a big disappointment. This grand dame of a house has been allowed to fall into serious disrepair - water was pouring (not dripping) through the ceiling when I entered the porch; there is peeling paint and rotting wood everywhere; any repairs that have been attempted are terribly inept (someone thinks caulking is a cure all). Frankly, it was sad and gross. That combined with furniture that was falling apart, cheap made-in-China tshotchkas everywhere, polyester sheets and faded posters that are supposed to pass as art, make this a place to skip. To be fair, the owners are friendly, but they seem harried and overwhelmed by the task of managing the place, and as tired as the house itself.

The Thorndyke was the highlight of my trip. The hosts are the most wonderful and caring people and their restaurant is hands down the best in town. I had the fish and chips to go and they were still amazing after 10 mins in the car. I stayed two nights and slept really well. The decor is very particular with lots of nice antique a bit everywhere. The place kept very clean so no worries about hygiene. This is the place to stay if you're visiting the area. You won't be disappointed.

Spent a peaceful, cozy evening here, riding out a winter storm in this beautiful historical premises, and woke up to the calming sounds of the waves. Our host, George, was warm and inviting and very knowledgeable about the building and area. Loved the claw foot tub in the First Lady's room. Would recommend to any one looking for a unique experience along the Burin Peninsula.
