Alexis Hotel

Took out some family for what we thought would be a nice dinner while we visited Port Hope Simpson on vacation. The first red flag should have been that there was no one else in the dining room at supper time. There were 5 of us dining, we had to serve ourselves coffee then we couldn't find the waitress to get tea when one of our party wanted tea. The orders came out spaced quite far apart and when I saw how soggy the French fries were on my sister's plate, I requested that mine be cooked for a longer time. She said sure, but they weren't. Three hot Turkey sandwiches were extremely cold, with soggy fries and gravy too salt to eat, and 2 hamburger platters that also had soggy fries. I could understand if it had been busy but there was no one else there. As we were finishing up, 2 more people came in to eat, (by helicopter)but they were staying at the hotel for business so it may have been the only place they could eat. The waitress didn't come back to check to see if our meal was okay, and when we were ready to go, we couldn't find her. We had to wait at the front desk to find someone to pay our bill. Don't bother going to the Alexis. Food and service wasn't worth the time or the money.

We stayed at the Alexis Hotel for 2 nights on our journey to see icebergs (we saw 4!) at St. Lewis / Mary’s Harbour. The restaurant was yummy and I loved the cod, while another enjoyed the donair pizza. The hotel service was great and rooms were very comfortable. It’s right on the water and how lovely to open the curtain in the morning to such a beautiful waterfront view!

My first stay at this hotel" was a few years ago

Room is clean and service very personal. Casual atmosphere. Would like to see more menu choices - at least a daily special. We stayed 5 nights and had limited choice of food.

The rooms were clean and comfortable good food .Management and staff were awesomeThey made our stay a very friendly and relaxing one. Beautiful view of the lake winter and summer looking forward to our next stay here Thanks Carol and Starla

We reserved for one nights stay on the same day we would stay. However, the roads were great so we kept driving to the ferry so we didn’t have to drive the two hours in the morning. I called to cancel and they charged me $28.75. I understand business is business but I wasn’t very happy. It’s not like we had the room booked for very long just a few hours.

The food in the restaurant is great. The staff are some of the most friendly you will ever meet and the rooms are just what you need when visiting the great town of Port Hope Simpson. We will be back!

Love staying at the Alexis in Port Hope. Margaret and Carol will go above and beyond to host you and make sure you enjoy the community. Pet friendly, good rates, and some of the greatest dining room views in Newfoundland and Labrador. Highly recommend.

Carol is very, very helpful with all the things you need for a good time in Port Hope - good atmosphere, good food, very clean rooms, information and coffee, whenever you ask for it.

It's exactly what you do expect in a town so far off the tourist track (because there is very little tourism in Labrador unfortunately) The room I stayed in was exactly as I expected. Equipped with what you need to be warm, clean, and dry to get a good rest.Service was friendly (even though she had to come from home to check me in late)Breakfast in the morning was reasonably priced, a good portion, and cooked perfectly.If you're driving north to Happy Valley, I'd recommend staying here and resting before tackling the last portion of unpaved Trans Lab Highway!
