Ichiro Japanese Restaurant
We brought out of town visitors with us here and were met with a very unfriendly hostess, literally icy reception. This is completely out of character to the warm and welcoming experience we have always received at other Japanese restaurants. We went to Mega Sushi and what a big difference. The restaurant is nicely appointed and welcoming. It was also very busy here but they were very pleasant, professional and attentive. We all enjoyed our lunch that was served very promptly.Needless to say, we will never go to Ichiro again.

Very pleasant experience! Great food! Great service! I particularly like the Seven Flavor Powder they have on the table because it actually is spicy. Most of the same kind of powders I had elsewhere was not spicy at all.

Amazing Japanese food experience that you rarely find in Metro Vancouver.Food was delicately made and tasted good. Everything was good but my amaebi was not fresh and the Tempura crumbles tastes a bit off.Service was amazing. They offer free green tea or water. We couldn't finish our lunch on their lunch time, so the staff urged us a bit to get out.Atmosphere was like an ideal Japanese restaurant.

We did not have a reservation but they seated us promptly. Tea was served before we could even take our coats off. We both ordered a bento box. The presentation was an extreme delight to the eyes and the food was out of this world. I felt like I was transported back to Japan! The cold items were cold and the hot items were hot. My favorite - karaage - was excellent. The sashimi was fresh. Can't go wrong with Ichiro.

It’s been a couple of years since we been to Ichiro and I must say the other Japanese restaurants in Richmond have really caught up and or surpassed it. The quality is still decent but the presentation and the taste just isn’t as good as some of the other high end sushi places. Price on certain items like nigiri and sashimi are high while others like rolls and battera are mid tier. Taste would be great if it was 30% cheaper but it’s not and therefore value isn’t as good as it used to be.

I experienced the worst service here among all the restaurants I visited in Vancouver! When I was asked to pay my bill, a female waitress (who seemed to also be the receptionist) came with the credit card machine. I pulled out my American Express card and put it against the machine. When the bill was printing, the waitress suddenly told me rudely that I shouldn’t have used American Express and next time I need to be aware of that. I was very shocked as the waitress didn’t tell me beforehand! Well, she was not paying attention to what I was doing, so it should be her fault, not mine. Also, as a customer I find it completely unacceptable to be told off by a waitress, especially I have paid her full tips for a lunch!I’ll never return and strongly suggest you who are reading this to think twice before visiting, as their waitress would easily blame the customers when she was the one who should take the responsibility! How disgraceful!

Set meals look tempting on the menu, but the prices are a tad high for the portion size (~$28 for most). I was also hoping for something slightly more decadent for the appetizers (off day?).Katsu nabe was delicious and filling. Sushi rolls were prepared nicely as well. This is the place for you if you enjoy traditonal/authentic Japanese cuisine.Location is convenient as there are dedicated parking spots at the back. Restaurant is clean as well.

Food is not bad except the pudding. It is the worst Japanese pudding I've ever had. Service was one of the worst for a Japanese restaurant. They are attentive when refilling your tea but they never check in to see if everything was good and they don't clean up the empty plates on your table! In the end we run out of space to put desserts. She then clean the table with an attitude. And It wasn't even that busy in the restaurant. Will not return because of the bad service.

Ichiro Japanese restaurant is the best Japanese restaurant in Richmond, period. Its Bento Box & Meal Set is excellent. Especially for the Karaage & Katsu Set, not only is it pure Japanese style (the same taste as I had in Osaka), but the taste is just fantastic. There are many Japanese restaurants in Richmond. However, many of these restaurants have a taste localized instead of Japanese (traditional Japanese food is a light taste overall). Therefore, it makes Ichiro a gem in Steveston and a proud restaurant in Richmond. In addition, its sashimi is a fantastic surprise and a flagship food for Ichiro. We ordered the deluxe sashimi and found that its sockeye salmon and tuna are not only fresh, but the texture of the meat is firm but smooth, and it melts in your mouth. As a healthy dish low in calories and fat, it is also a good source of protein and omega-three fatty acids. Moreover, its Hotate and Uni are also must-try items as they are now a great seasonal sea urchin. Finally, its fresh oyster will satisfy all oyster lovers, and you must try it to understand how good it is.Its environment is fantastic for small group gatherings. And its staff are super friendly too.

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants; food is authentic and fresh. Service is attentive as well.Definitely would recommend their Kiku set, Wanko & sashimi set, and sukiyaki set. Their sashimi is definitely unbeatable in terms of freshness, and sukiyaki nabe is simply addictive.Sadly with freshness and authenticity comes a hefty price tag. Kiku set costs $39.95 while Wanko set costs $35.95; even the sukiyaki set increased from $18 to the current $25.95 price point. While the quality may justify the price, but sadly I can only afford to splurge once in a while now, or for a special occasion.Limited reserved parking at the rear of the restaurant, near the bus stop. Plenty of street parking around too if you don’t mind walking a little bit.
