My 3 children have been learning the violin with James for the last 7 years. He is skillful, patient, encouraging and fun. He has a way of nurturing their love for music and violin. As an excellent musician and conductor, he not only teaches but also inspires his students.

James is a wonderful teacher. My daughter Hayat has been taking classes with him for a couple of months and she has progressed tremendously. His method is always encouraging and he allows the student the space and time to figure out and fix a wrong note they played, as opposed to jumping in and fixing it quickly.He works with what the student can do, building their confidence. Highly recommended.

James is a patient ,fun teacher. As well, he is an accomplished musician. He is great at explaining and gives fun little tidbits of music history and has a pleasant disposition. I’d highly recommend him as a teacher.

If you are looking for a violin teacher I highly recommend James.James Malmberg is a true musician, great violinist and conductor. His violin tone, like that of Isaac Perlman, is warm and deep, and touches the heart of the listener. His orchestra is a major contributor to the city of Richmond in music.My son has been learning the violin from him since 2011 until now and my son was very lucky to have met him.

James is a very patient and skillful violin teacher. My son has taken violin lessons with him for one and half years and has progressed so much. James emphasizes on fundamental technical skills and would also introduce music theory and music history to kids along the way. He’s a great teacher who inspires kids to love music.

James Malmberg is one of the best violin teachers we have ever known. It was a blessing that both my boys started learning violin with him when they were very young. He always made learning violin fun for them. He has creative ways to teach and to explain different concepts to his students. He inspired my two boys to love the violin and to improve in playing this difficult instrument. He is kind, honest, and down to earth. James is also a gifted conductor and performer. I highly recommend him.

Mr. Malmberg is an excellent teacher. He is not only an expert in his art, but a skilled teacher with understanding in encouraging and teaching young students. My daughter really enjoys lessons with him and is progressing under his teaching. She says he makes lessons fun, and yet I know this isn't at the expense of learning and the discipline required to learn something difficult over a long period of time. He manages to hold to both of those things. Highly recommend his studio!

James has been my teacher for over 10 years and he's the best violin teacher I've ever had! He is wonderful to talk to and makes learning a difficult instrument so much easier! Structured lessons, ranges of classical pieces, and positive and constructive feedback are what make him awesome. I definitely recommend him as a teacher for anyone of all ages who are looking to improve their musical skill and have fun!

We are grateful that James has been our son’s violin and viola instructor for over 10 years. He is an excellent music instructor, coach, and mentor. His leadership has guided us through recitals, concerts, competitions, summer master classes, and advance music enrichment programs. As a parent, I highly recommend James for anyone seeking violin or viola lessons for their children.
