I live in Victoria and have bought chocolates for friends over the years when visiting family in Courtenay. I’ve always had good experiences there except the last time a few weeks ago. The man who served me was very rude and impatient. They were busy but not overly so. I asked for a box made up with all milk chocolate truffles. He took them out with his bare hands no gloves. While he handled the paper wrap holding the chocolate, one would think they would use gloves as standard sanitary practice to prevent contamination, especially during a pandemic. Then he sighed and rolled his eyes when I asked for a ribbon on the box like the ones on the shelf. In retrospect I should have left without buying them and called the health department.I asked for one of the little booklets telling the origin of the store, etc, and the young girl behind the counter slammed it on the counter l like it was an inconvenience. So rude!! I will never shop there again.

Decent bakery, mostly tasty stuff but some not so much. For example don't buy their walnut cinnamon buns. On two different occasions they ware dry and almost felt undercooked. Felt like they are few days old.

I was first introduced to this delicious place 10 years ago and my family tried many different treats... the lemon meringue cake was a HUGE hit! We just went back for another visit, 10 years later and it was even better than I remember (we live in Alberta, so we are not local). I had a slice of their decadent chocolate cake and my husband had a pumpkin cheesecake tart, dear heaven they were delicious! My cake was the perfect amount of chocolate, moist and Delicious. My mouth waters right now just thinking of it! Thank you Cakebread for all the delicious goodies you make and create!!

Mother’s Day is the second time I have placed an order with this company, the first time being Christmas. I live two provinces over and it is so nice to have a local bakery deliver treats to my family in Courtenay. From what my family tells me everything is beautiful and tastes delicious. extremely disappointed. ordered my birthday cake here and it was dry and inedible when we emailed to tell them we were met with a rude email blaming us and offering no apology or solutions. sadly will not be shopping here again.

I had the best blueberry danish of my life, no, the best danish period.It had piles of real blueberries and the pastry was brushed with just a hint of sweet, was flaky on the outside, and tender on the inside. Yum!

Excellent bread and competitively priced. Cakes and pastries and chocolates are very expensive but you get what you pay for. It's a shame they took away the seating.
