Most awful, unprofessional experience ever. This business is money hungry, rude and just downright awful. After spending almost 6k in 2 days on our dog , that we had to decide to put down, they first off, interrupted our saying goodbye to him to ask for more money , when we were told minutes prior that we were paid up with a balance that’d be refunded. Feeling helpless we paid that extra amount. Now it’s 4 days later and they called asking for another $500, due to “an internal receptionist miscalculation”On top of the trauma losing a beloved pet this place makes the whole experience even worse with their treatment of handling the whole situation.

My mom's cat has cancerous tumor and we were referred here. The cat's quality of life is not bad right now and she does not act sick. We tried chemo for a little bit, but without drawing blood this woman told my senior citizen mother the chemo wasn't working. My mom asked how much time she has. This doctor said Most people would put them down right now". My mom said her cat is living normally and doesn't appear to be in any distress. This so called doctor replied all snarky "most people care about the quality of their pet's life" What do you think we're doing shelling out tons of money at your establishment to help my mom's cat!? Most people don't take their cats to a freaking oncologist! How dare you be so disrespectful to my mother! I don't care how busy you are

We live in Mount Vernon and because of the holiday weekend, our vet could not perform the emergency surgery that was needed for our dog.Our vet contacted this facility and they were able to get our dog right in!They walked through all the steps, the what’s next and the what ifs and the right nows.Very professional, very kind, very knowledgeable.Everyone did such an amazing job in a very stressful, emotional situation.Thank you to everyone!Highly recommend!

I am so grateful for this wonderful veterinary facility. They helped my husband and I through the harrowing process of emergency treatment, decision making, euthanasia, and aftercare for our beloved, 20-years-young cat. We had never been through this process before, and we were very anxious about bringing our cat to an emergency vet facility, how she would respond, and what the experience would be like. From speaking to the friendly vet tech who took our call and advised us to come in, to the calm and kind vet tech who took our cat back right away, to the wonderful veterinarian we saw, Dr. Westcott, everyone we interacted with was very kind, courteous, patient, and informative. The facility was very clean and the waiting area did not feel crowded. Dr. Westcott patiently listened to our concerns and presented us with options to help us make very difficult decisions. Staff (vet techs, veterinarian) were very transparent about costs as well so we had some idea of what costs were affiliated with various options. They provided us with information on post-euthanasia options for our cat and coordinated her transfer to the wonderful Radiant Heart After-Care For Pets facility/team (which was the option we selected). They gave us all the time and space we needed to process everything and come to decisions, and to enjoy our final moments with our pet. It is with gratitude I write this review: I am so grateful for the Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital team helping us through a very difficult day with professionalism, compassion and care.

Super pleased with the staff and vet, Dr Kate. Stella (our boxer) wasn't able to get into our normal vet, so we choose Boundary Bay Vet Specialty Hospital to help fix a laceration in Stella's thigh. The front staff and techs were all very kind, and it was obvious they enjoy the animals they work with. Also super happy that everyone was understanding (and accommodating) of shy dog behavior. It's great to know there is another accommodating, competent vet in Bellingham that I am comfortable bringing in my dog when my own vet is full. Thank you, Dr. Kate (and front staff) you made a Friday afternoon emergency trip to the vet far less traumatic than it could have been with your warmth, friendly smiles and quick work of fixing up Stella. I’m here visiting from Oregon for the month. Last night my pup Hobbs began shaking his head and walking lopsided. I suspected a foxtail. I checked his ear, cut out some hair tufts, but could see nothing. Next morning I started calling vets; all bursting at seams. I was beyond concerned. One office suggested this Emergency care center. I called, we spoke, took some info and said, “Bring him in.” The staff, and Dr. Shield were exemplary. After examination Hobbs did indeed have a foxtail. He was sedated and it was removed. The entire process was approximately 3 hours. The cost reasonable for emergency care. I can’t say enough about this office and vet facility. Thank you from Hobbs and I both. It was a caring, professional experience.

*Take your pet here if they’re having an emergency!* If I could give 10 stars, I would. Everyone at Boundary Bay / AEC is competent, understanding, responsive and kind despite having one of the most difficult jobs in the world treating suffering animals, and helping their emotional parents, daily. Thank you all. You are quite literally heroes. Our senior male cat has been having gastrointestinal and urinary problems and has been here multiple times in the last few months, after showing signs that he was in discomfort and we weren’t able to get him in to see our regular vet immediately. We were always counseled thoroughly on what courses of action could be taken and what the cost would be *before* expensive treatment was provided. All of our many questions were answered transparently and with kindness. A BIG special thank you to Dr. Johnson for helping our cat Mogget and explaining to us exactly what was going on every step of the way. We appreciate you so much.Yes, there will most likely be a wait time - just like in a human ER. You can also call ahead and ask about wait times. From my experience, your pet is assessed and will be provided care according to the urgency of their problem and the urgency of other pet’s problems who are waiting for care as well.Yes, they require payment on the date of care provided, as I can only imagine they must do in order to ensure they can afford to continue to provide great care and also pay their excellent staff. The staff and website are both very clear on this detail, and can counsel you on options such as CareCredit in order to help pay for your visit if you’re in financial difficulty. If you’re worried about how to pay, ask them to walk you through the options. They do not offer payment plans in-house.They will provide you with an itemized estimate of how much expensive care will cost before providing it in order to make sure you are aware of the costs. For a longer visit, they have you pay a percentage of the *lower* total estimated bill as a deposit, something that once again is absolutely justified for the level of care they’re giving. The cost of an initial daytime emergency visit for a cat is around $125 (additional medications/exams/care add onto that). Please take your animal in if they’re in obvious discomfort! By the time pets show it to us, it’s time to take it seriously, as I have learned.

Entire staff was professional and caring. Took our dog in at the last minute when she was in pain and we were staying overnight in Bellingham. Reasonable wait time considering the last minute appointment. Our dog was well taken care of and much more comfortable after her visit. Clean friendly facility.
