If you are looking to improve and get serious about your guitar playing you can’t go wrong with Ian. The private lessons are incredibly impactful and valuable every time. Ian has a talent for knowing just what to get you to focus on. He is also a very good judge of when to push to help you get to that next level. Now with the online group lessons you can get that benefit of a watchful eye on your technique in a more affordable format. Ian is an absolutely epic player, master of theory and versatile in so many genres. As the saying goes, he has probably forgotten more about guitar than I am likely to ever learn. No matter your level Ian will make you better after every lesson.

Imagine spending less time per week for lessons, but learning more! I went from 3 hours/week in group lessons, to 1 hour/week with Ian in private lessons, and am advancing faster & learning more. For our lesson, he customizes specific exercises that help me accomplish my music goals. Perfect! He also has an amazing ability to discover what is holding me back, suggest a tweak to my technique, & things start improving quickly.Besides being on unbelievable guitar wizard, Ian is a super solid dude, & always follows up with what he says. Even though his guitar skills are from a different planet, he never makes me feel intimidated, and helps build my confidence.I couldn't imagine a better instructor!

I rekindled my relationship with the guitar a while back after a sadly long hiatus. I figured “everything is online now, I’ll just teach myself”... yeah.. not so much. There is simply no substitute for the personalized attention and instruction of a professional teacher. Someone with the knowledge and experience to see where you are, and show you the next step on your journey. Ian’s knowledge of the instrument is matched only by his enthusiasm and I think he genuinely enjoys seeing his students get excited about the guitar. I can honestly say that I have experienced more gains studying with Ian over the past 3 months than I did in the 3 years previous fumbling around on my own. Focused instruction and practice routines combined with the encouragement to continue to improve have been the key for me. Can’t say enough good about the experience or Ian’s dedication to the process. I finally feel like I’m on the right path.

I began taking lessons with Ian after reaching a pinnacle of frustration trying to teach myself through Youtube and information floating around online. Nothing was working and I wasn't making any progress. There was too much information available, and I didn't have the experience to discern what was valuable, and what would just set me back even further, so I tried everything and developed a lot of bad habits along the way. Ian was immediately able to pinpoint my bad habits, and was always able to come up with solutions, even going as far as taping my picking hand to the correct part of the guitar to eliminate my shaking forearm. Ian has perfect technique and a wealth of knowledge in theory and music, and is able to translate that seamlessly to teaching and guiding you on your path. I went from barely being able to play the easiest Metallica solos to playing Dream Theater and Necrophagist, and without Ian's guidance that wouldn't have been possible. He's incredibly generous with his time, and is also a great dude to just chat about music with. Not only has Ian been an amazing teacher, but he's been an amazing friend.

Ian is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to music theory and guitar technique. He has helped me analyze which parts of my playing require the most work and developed plans/exercises to get the most out of my practice time. He also motivates me to be a better player.

I have been taking guitar lessons from Ian for over a year and a half. Not only is he a fantastic guitar player, he is also a great communicator and able to immediately provide valuable feedback to my playing technique. Ian can explain things in terms of music theory and its application with tremendous clarity and this has really improved my understanding on how music works. I continue to improve markedly under Ian and would recommend him to anyone wanting to improve their guitar knowledge and technique.

I began taking lessons with Ian as I was preparing for an audition to get into University. My first few lessons began with him teaching me the core techniques that would (and have) greatly helped my ability and understanding of playing the guitar. Once I had built a better understanding of technique, I was amazed at how easy other new techniques were to learn, such as alternate picking and sweep arpeggios. As my lessons continued, Ian would challenge me with new techniques and sometimes strange foreign guitar concepts which brought a whole new way for me to approach my creative side when writing a riff or doing a solo. Overall, Ian gave me the opportunity to turn myself into the guitarist I wanted to be but simply didn't know where to start. If you are someone who also doesn't know how to start your journey into guitar, or simply want to learn techniques or find new ways of approaching your instrument, then taking lessons with Ian will be an integral part of your journey.

I got a hold of Ian because I felt incredibly stagnant in my guitar playing and felt like I had hit a wall that I could not break through. I would hear songs that I wanted to jam along to so badly, and I would have ideas in my head for something to play but it never came out right. I felt like my guitar playing had peaked at such a low level. There are so many resources online, but I never felt like that any of them were what I needed. Ian figured out where I was at in guitar playing, and almost immediately I started making insane progress. Instead of giving you a cookie cutter lesson, Ian builds his lessons tailored to where your skill level is at and what you want to learn and improve on. He has an incredible knowledge of music theory and he can explain it in ways that just makes so much sense. With every mistake or bad habit I had, Ian had a solution and explained why it would help but ultimately leaves it up to you to decide if the fix works for you or not. Ultimately, the confidence I have gained on the guitar is insane and I encourage anybody at any skill level to try a couple lessons at least. You just won’t regret it.

Damnit I thought I knew it all. I met Ian waye 20 years into my career. I hired Ian to write the some guitar solos for my record “ Immunize - Do unto others”. His solos were unique, tasteful and boasted a skill set unknown to me. I signed up for lessons with the intent to expand my abilities. His lessons were serious and results driven. In 7 months i was able to cross boundaries I’ve been struggling with for over a decade. I was already a skilled musician, but Ian was able to identify areas for improvements and paved the way for huge gains in speed, accuracy and knowledge.Do yourself a favor and take the short route to success, sign up for lessons with Ian Waye!

I have been playing guitar for 23 years, fronting bands in the western Canadian metal scene for a lot of that time. I had never taken lessons before, but found that my lead playing was hitting a wall. There were a lot of complicated solos that I couldn’t figure out that I wanted to learn and I wanted to expand my playing so I could be more fluid and creative around the neck. A friend of mine recommended me to Ian and we hit it off right away. One of the things I like about Ian are how he pays attention to your playing goals and caters the lessons to you reaching them, while at the same time tracking your progress so you can see how far you’ve come. He also has a huge knowledge and passion for music theory which he’ll use to help me find harmonies or new interesting chords to help keep my playing fresh. Not only that, this guy shreds! I would highly recommend taking lessons with Ian to kick your playing up a notch!
