Lunenburg Whale Watching Tours

We didn't see any whales, but we saw some really cute seals! Our guide was funny and super informative. Just a nice trip out.

I know there’s a chance you won’t see whales, however, after going on the tour and reading other reviews it seems like there’s a 2% chance you will see whales on this tour. I don’t understand why a tour company would title themselves as a whale watching tour when you won’t see any whales. We saw some seals, but nothing else. Also, the weather conditions were not good. It was super windy, rainy, and the waves were very choppy. It was a three hour tour and about halfway through someone asked the guide if they had seen any whales recently…..the guide said he hasn’t seen any whales all year. There was no microphone or equipment to hear the guide and for most of it they were in the crew pit area. Maybe change your name to something about nature, not whales. Overall, I was very disappointed. Save your money (it was expensive) and do anything else.

Great tour! Saw birds and lots of seals, so cool! Unfortunately, we didn’t see any whales, but that’s not at the fault of the company of course. Boat was comfortable and there’s an option to sit under the canopy. Also a washroom on board. Our guide was super friendly. Would recommend.

We were hoping to see whales, but we weren’t expecting to see whales. We didn’t see any, but what really disappointed us was that the crew members didn’t seem to be actively looking for them either. They seemed to go to the scenic spots instead of into the open water.We’ve been whale watching many times with other companies and this one was more of a boat tour than a whale watching excursion.Friendly staff and the price was decent, so overall, it wasn’t a total fail.

No whales to see but you should never go on these tours expecting to see wildlife - they are on their own mission. BUT the ride was fantastic. The captain toured us though some very scenic areas including The Ovens caves and some cool spots where the locals surf. Shipmate Ty did his best to entertain and provide relevant local information and history. I just loved being on the water. Don't forget the sunscreen. Expect to be gone 2.5 ro 3hrs in good weather.

Did not see any whales, which I understand is not guaranteed. We did not really see any birds either but did see seals. The crew was nice. The boat ride was long so I was hoping to see more wildlife but again, I understand it cannot be guaranteed. We also saw one porpoise from far a way but did not stop to watch it. Would be nice to have been given binoculars for the ride. I also recommend bringing a coat for sure!

Boat ride was ok. The weather was nice so calm boat ride. Only saw a few seals in a 3 hour trip. We understand it was early in the season, but the lack of any animals was disheartening for the kids we brought along. The crew was nice but the booking process was a little shady. When I first called the booking lady said there were a lot of discounts she could apply as we had a large party. She also mentioned whales might be hard to see this early in season but there were lots of other animals we would see. When I called back to confirm, the only discount was a 10% group rate, which was fine and we were given a quoted price. Since our cell reception was choppy she did not take a credit card. When we showed up the next day for our tour, the price had jumped up by $25 and they said cash only. I questioned the price but they would not honour the price they quoted the day before. It was an hour drive for us to get there so we decided to pay. There were banks in town so we were able to get cash out. I would look for tours in Halifax or Cape Breton or PEI. We spoke to other passengers on the tour who felt duped as well by this company. The whole booking price fiasco and lack of any wildlife would lead me to not recommend this company.

First off I'd like to say my husband and I really enjoyed our whale watching tour with Lunenburg whale watching tours. It was a really enjoyable boat trip. It was a wonderful way to spend the rest of our evening in Lunenburg. The captain and the guide were extremely funny, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We were able to see many porpoise, a minke whale, and got pretty close to a large group of seals. There was alot of beautiful views. Able to ride past the ovens park sea caves was nice. We did walk that trail, but it was a different view from the water for sure.My one and only complaint is that the boat was packed. I'd say there was too many people on it for everyone to enjoy themselves. We had a good spot, but if anything was on the opposite side of the boat we were unable to see.All in all we definitely enjoyed our evening out. But for anyone really wanting to get out whale watching and get good pictures this might not be it. And it was hard for the kids on the boat to see also. Unless the boats are not usually packed full of people like this, I can't say it's always this way I suppose. Just something for the owners to take into consideration I guess.Thank you for our evening boat ride however. We definitely did enjoy it!

We had an amazing experience after deciding last minute to go. We were so thankful they still had room on the boat. All the staff were super nice and friendly. Tyler was super knowledgeable and great sense of humour. We knew going out that we may not see anything but were so delighted when we saw over 10 whales and a couple dolphins. Great few hours out in the ocean on a beautiful evening. Really enjoyed the boat ride as well. I managed to snap a few pics but my husband got better ones on his big camera. Even if you don't see anything it was worth the boat ride. Thanks again!!

We did not see any whales. Midway through the tour someone asked the guide if they had seen any whales yet, and he said he hadn’t seen any yet this year. With it being early in the season, maybe the tour should be called marine life tour, or something like that. We saw seals and porpoises which were great. But would have been much more satisfied if we didn’t expect to see whales. Edit: I read your reply. I certainly understand that it’s earlier in the season, but why would you advertise it as a whale watching tour, when you know there likely won’t be whales. It was a tour of the islands and the harbour.
