fantastic location and staff. Adopted an adult cat from them yesterday and the process was great, staff was friendly and kind and did their best to make sure he was going to a good home. Tatum was very kind and thorough in the process and we had a great experience, though we don't NEED 3 cats, I can see us coming here again in the future :)

Denying someone the chance to say goodbye to their 20 year old cat before euthanizing is absolutely just cruel and awful. I can't believe the awful way this branch has dealt with end of life for our family pet. Appalling.

Of course an SPCA is a great place but the smell as we walked in the door was overwhelming. I wanted to explore the facility but couldn't.

Sadly we are deeply disappointed by this SPCA branch. After putting in an adoption application for a kitten, calling the branch to be told that they will set up a 'meet and greet' and then never to hear from them again, phone not being answered and then finding that the kitten is now gone without a chance of us meeting it. We would have gladly driven a 5 hour round trip to bring it home. There was no reason for the branch not to consider us as we had cats for the last 40 years and lost our last one to cancer.

I had a disturbing and discourteous experience at the nelson spca. I do not wish to disparage the spca. I agree with the need for an organisation designed to advocate for distressed etc animals nor do i object that people must provide proof of ownership and willingness to properly care for their pets.My experience was of an unprofessional public servant making an emotional decision and using her authority as a power to discourage or intimidate.I was not greeted by the people at the counter. I said at least 4 sentences indicating why i was there before anyone responded. The person who came with me felt so uncomfortable that he left.I have a 19 and 3/4 yr old half wild cat that went missing while i was at work. He ended up at the house of a neighbor i don't know, then at the spca. I called as soon as i found out he was there (4 days after the 4 day cut off period they give for claiming a pet- of which i was unaware), made arrangements to see him and mobilised to find loving care for him until i have finished working and can take him home.He was in rough shape after being alone off and on for a month +. They said the vet found some acute issues- easily associated with old age -but no parasites other than earmites, and a healthy heart.I was treated coldly and felt judged even before they knew who i was. The branch manager (who did not identify her position until i asked her name as i left) as much as told me i could not have my cat back. When i made a statement of disagreement she wished to discontinue the conversation immediately and threatened to call the cops". I felt this was unwarranted as i had not raised my voice nor used any profanity

The Nelson SPCA was very helpful when I wanted to adopt a dog. They helped me to meet her and introduce her to my new dog. The did a home visit to be sure I was offering a good home. They have me a free vet visit and name tag certificate. The foster mom was also helpful. The information they provided about the dog was accurate. Thanks for the good work.

For all that Spca was it now is not. Corporations stuck in paperwork and hypocrisy keep animals from good homes
