Review of SSW programThere’s more, but reached the text limit. That’s how horrible it was.IN A NUTSHELL:- is fully for profit, doesn’t care about you- only qualifies you for ENTRY LEVEL jobs- no real social work- had no access to a $1000 textbook until nearly the end of the course- ALL textbooks are online = 2-3hrs every single night (on top of class) reading off your screen or paying to print it yourself- class size of 35+ when there’s a limit of ~20- leaves the instructors to struggle- only reply to emails when it’s the finance lady asking for money, otherwise you’re waiting days if not weeks- horrible wifi connection in the school- will leave you to your own devices when you need help- provides horribly cheap, itchy, see through grad gowns- doesn’t provide informed instructors when yours is away- leaves you with $20,000 in debt and zero actual education- tricks you into thinking you’ll be a social worker during the intake interview- barley any parking, have to park on street in front of houses/businesses that don’t appreciate it - risk of getting towed everyday- hand out awards for getting above 90% for the first couple modules, then forget about it the rest of the year- constant issues with student portal (signing in, up/downloading docs, taking tests, etc)- hear every concern and problem students have, then ignore them and have a pizza party!I graduated with honours because I TAUGHT MYSELF.Oh and THIS COURSE WILL NOT QUALIFY YOU TO BE ANY SORT OF SOCIAL WORKER. It’s deceiving, you’ll only be able to get entry levels jobs that you just tried to get away from. Before I continue, I want to express that the instructor I had, Alison was an incredible, very knowledgeable person with lots of experience. I loved her teaching style and connected with it. She gave every person the opportunity to speak openly and feel comfortable doing so. With that being said- she couldn’t actually teach us.VCC let her sink online. We lost HOURS upon hours of instruction time, at least 1 hour of our 4 hour class per day. Our instructor worked from home most of the time since she was unable to go into the school, on a tablet that was incapable of performing the way she needed it to. She was always freezing, not hearings us, not able to see the entire screen, all app capabilities etc. Along with the technical issues, she was not well versed in online meetings and teaching, so our quality of education suffered. Instead of focusing on our work, we constantly had to stop and help share/stop sharing screens, add people to the group, etc. VCC did not help Alison in any way to improve this. They did not provide her with a suitable computer nor let her teach from the school’s computer. Once in a blue moon, she would be allowed in for one day. VCC basically left Alison to fend for herself. In no way, shape or form did VCC set us up for success online. The school basically left Alison to fail. Whether it was the unwillingness to get her the proper computer or other reasons, what she was using was incapable of teaching our class. We complained numerous times that we we’re struggling and losing valuable (paid for) class time, but nothing changed until restrictions starting lifting and she was able to go back to the classroom and teach from their computer.I was not told that it is a modular learning style. I was told 2 available start dates and that spots fill up fast, so I quickly picked one and entered the class. I was not aware I would be entering at a time that I had just missed the “Introduction to Social Work” module, which ended up coming around near the end of my program timing. That module (and others) had information that would have been helpful, vital even, throughout the course. If I had known or been told what module was currently running, I would have waited and entered at a time that was more suitable for the student learning experience. I entered in what would have seemed about the middle of the program.I wish Google gave you more space because I could keep going.DO. NOT. GO. TO. THIS. SCHOOL.

The Educational Assistant program is amazing, Jacquie Grant is a caring, compassionate and motivated instructor who puts each and every students concerns, priorities and learning first. The course material is relatable and created for you to succeed. I have nothing but good things to say about the EA program itself. The small campus makes it easy to get the support you need- feels like a community. Even though there is no campus parking, I’d walk 15 minutes to attend class at VACC (the street parking is no longer than a 4 minute walk) rather than a university who does not individualize your needs.

My experience with the Abbotsford campus for the EA program was amazing. My instructors were kind, knowledgeable and cared about me as an individual. Jacquie and Shelley were above and beyond. I'm lined up with a job I want immediately after graduating and I couldn't be happier with the process.

Working as an ECE instructor at Abbotsford campus is a rewarding experience. There are so many aspects of this position, and all of them are equally important. At first, educating young people about the importance of quality programs and interactions in early years provides me with an opportunity to make a positive difference in lives of children and their families . Then, connecting with daycares in community gives me an insight into the needs of our families and implementing that into our program at campus. Finally, working in partnership with the staff on the campus creates an atmosphere of support and understanding for both students and staff. At all times, I feel respected and valued from both students and all the staff on the campus. Our days in the classroom are combination of lectures, videos from the filed, discussions, readings, researches, creative expressions, and much more in order to prepare students for various experiences in the work setting. As it is visible from the above mentioned, I am enjoying working here :-)

Worst collage ever, specially for nursing. Tutors are partial specially Jen. Unfair for international students. They have their own rules. All staff is not helpful. Worst worst worst collage in Abbotsford.
