Nick Fitzhardinge Photography

Nick does an outstanding job of organizing and leading his workshops and private tours. He has a vast vault of knowledge of the Canadian Rockies because of backcountry guide licensing so you know he is going to make safe decisions on where he is taking you.He also is a very skilled photographer and helps to make sure you are set up properly to capture the best of the scene with regards to camera settings and lens choices. When an awesome scene spontaneously presents itself, he has got great enthusiasm which is contagious as well.13/10, highly recommend.

Just had a super two days with Nick doing a photography workshop to Abraham Lake. Nick is a great teacher, very patient, explains things in a way that is easy to understand and pitches his tips and advice to your personal level of experience perfectly. His knowledge of the mountains is extensive, which makes for a super interesting trip.He is also very safety aware. He was actively ensuring everyone was warm enough (we had extreme cold conditions), that everyone was safe walking on the frozen lake and taking covid precautions.

Nick is incredibly knowledgeable about both photography and the surroundings we're shooting in, which helped me connect more with the landscape. I learned so much in just a few days. He works with you and the style you like to shoot in and gives you tips and composition ideas. He ensured everyone in the workshop was safe and comfortable as well. I hope to do another workshop with Nick again!

I joined Nick on a photo trip to Mount Assiniboine provincial park. Nick did a great job with organizing the whole trip with a well thought out plan for each day. He is great at communication and was able to address all my concerns before the trip. It was my first back country camping trip and he had great suggestions to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.Nick is great with both the technical and creative aspects of photography. One thing I noticed right off the bat about Nick is that he is very good at finding new compositions. He usually goes around the location and shows you various compositions to pick from. His valuable feedback help you with improving your composition. I learned a lot of new techniques from him including focus stacking, exposure blending, aurora and milky way photography.Other than photography, Nick was very knowledgeable about the area. He knew the ins and outs of the park. He took us to some of the popular spots in the area, including the nublet where we ended up spending the sunset and stayed late for some Milky way shots over Mount Assiniboine. That was definitely the highlight of the trip. We also checked out some other spots, which are less known, yet beautiful in their own way. All in all, we ended up with some very unique shots.I would definitely take another photo trip with Nick in the future. I highly recommend his photo trips to anyone looking to create some spectacular photos and/or looking to explore the Canadian rockies with a local.

I am a travel advisor by profession, and it was by an unforeseen set of circumstances that I got the opportunity to hire Nick for my clients family pictures on their Banff vacation. I have never been so pleased with a photographer! From the moment he picked up the phone he was professional, knowledgeable, and willing to take care of my clients. He helped pick a perfect day and time for their family pictures taking into account the weather and where the sun would be at what time. During the photo shoot he was courteous, listened, and worked wonderfully with both adults and children. The photos were ready ahead of when they were expected and were of a superior quality. My clients want to book him again for their next set of family pictures in Banff and I will be referring to him to all my clients in the area from now on. He is truly a great photographer and wonderful human!

Just finished a 3 day winter photography workshop in the Rockies with Nick and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nick is so knowledgeable and passionate about photography and the mountain environment. During the event, he is entirely committed to supporting the interests of participants with enthusiasm and guidance tailored to the individual participant. I will be back!

My husband and I were lucky enough to secure Nick's services for several days on our trip to the Canadian Rockies. We were thrilled in so many ways. Nick guided us to amazing scenery that we would never have found without him. Once there, he gave us tips for improving our photography by helping us with the composition of photos. Nick taught us so much more about getting the best out of our cameras. He was very generous with his knowledge of both the camera, landscape composition and the areas that we explored. We also never felt rushed when with Nick.Nick organised taking us to Lake O'Hara, which was a dream location for us. Nick took the hike at our pace and always gave us options in terms of our day of exploration. He also suggested places for our independent exploration. Using the skills that we had learned from that first day ensured that all of our photos from that point on improved immeasurably.Our next event was to Larch Valley at Moraine Lake. NIck met us at Moraine Lake and so we began our journey to this incredible place, especially in late September when we were there. The whole area was just captivating. Once again, Nick was exceptionally considerate and went at our pace, which probably felt like a snail pace for him. At no point did we feel rushed. The photos that we were able to capture were incredible.Our next event was exploring Banff in the late afternoon and sunset - no huge elevations in hiking on this experience. Nick took us to his favourite locations and showed us a side of Banff that we would not have been able to discover independently. Nick is easy to get along with and ensured that we enjoyed every outing with him.Our final event was exploring Canmore for sunrise. This was truly incredible. Nick took us to so many amazing places that we would never have found on our own. The photos that we took, under his tutelage are among the best that we have taken on all of our travels.We learnt so much from Nick over our experiences and our subsequent photos reflect this new knowledge. Nick's excellent communication skills were evident from our very first contact with him, when we had to postpone due to COVID and at every point throughout our planning process, meetings and afterwards. Nick put us at ease at all times, even when I was worried that we weren't hiking fast enough. He is an amazing teacher who is generous with his knowledge. Nick is a brilliant guide and I will definitely be organising more adventures when we are in the Canmore - Banff - Lake Louise areas again.

Cathy and I (Ken) recently completed a two-day photography tour with Nick Fitzhardinge. Nick was an excellent instructor/guide for our tour. He started with a background of our photography experience, what we hoped to accomplish with the tour and customized it from there. I wanted to focus on nature shots while Cathy wanted to focus more on landscapes. Within the first few hours, both of us were taking amazing pictures. We spent the rest of the tour building on those skills. We came away from the experience feeling not only had we learned something, but came home with photos of which we are proud.Nick went out of his way to ensure we were satisfied with his efforts. He was professional, entirely knowledgeable, and it was well worth the money and time. If you are interested in expanding your photography skills, we would, without hesitation, recommend Nick.

I had the pleasure of having Nick as a private guide for an all day photography adventure this past week. Before I arrived, he put together a sample itinerary and was open to suggestions as well as finding views/locations that would most suit my style, being a photographer myself. We started at dawn for pre-sunrise shots on Gap Lake and then made a long winding path to Abraham Lake for sunset, before making it back to Canmore for blue hour art of the mountains. He never made me feel rushed and listened and watched for what excited me for style, adjusting the day that was planned. Nick was super professional, prompt (picked me up directly from my hotel), and is a very talented photographer himself. By the end of the day, he gives you the feeling that you spent it shooting with a friend more than a tour guide. It was the best money I spent in Canmore/Banff. I would recommend him without reservation, and I am very selective. He also offers group outings, so there is something for everyone from a solo to small groups. It doesn't matter whether you are newer into photography or just looking for a guide to show you to the best locations, contact Nick for anything in the Canmore/Banff area.

I went on a full moon photography with Nick around Banff national park. I learned tons of techniques from him and had great photo opportunities. I already have my next trip with him booked. Highly recommend it if you’re into photography and the outdoors.
