I stopped by for some drop ins while visiting Toronto. Everyone was very welcoming and made me feel like part of the gym right away. (I visited another prominent Toronto gym where this was definitely not the case). I got in lots of rolls with very talented upper belts. Everyone has really slick hand fighting and fast smooth transitions. I believe that every night ends with an open mat, which is especially great for visitors!

Stepping into a Jiu Jitsu / Muay Thai gym can be intimidating to anyone looking to start martial arts for the first time. However, some of the coolest people I've met in my life train here. No egos to be found anywhere and coach Ian immediately makes you feel welcomed. It's a laid back atmosphere that anyone can feel comfortable in, regardless if you're a complete beginner or an experienced grappler looking to get in rounds in with some high-level guys. Instruction is highly-detailed but taught in a way that makes it easily digestible to anyone. Open mat follows every class. This place stays open late into the night as long as there's people still rolling...huge for anyone looking to get good at Jiu Jitsu. There is a great variety of size and skill level in training partners. Super clean facility, which is extremely important for any martial arts gym.Bonus: There is also an excellent muay Thai program! . Joseph is a top-notch instructor whose enthusiasm and attentiveness gets you excited to come to class everyday.Definitely recommend.

Great gym with multiple quality coaches that all bring their own style to their teaching. Lots of high level purple and brown belts and 3 black belts. Classes available for beginners and advanced grapplers. Very welcoming environment and the owner Ian keeps the open mats going until there's nobody left to roll, so plenty of opportunities to spend quality time on the mats. Excellent Muay Thai classes available too for those who like to cross train or prefer striking.

Clean studio space easily accessible via TTC. Great crowd of individuals. Beginner friendly. Also... ONE OF THE FEW PLACES THAT CATERS TO NO GI! Most schools I go to usually have a 50/50 split between go and no gi and even that is rare. Ample mat space and that minimalistic studio vibe make this a great place to train.Ian's an amazing instructor. He could teach a rock how to leglock someone. His finishing mechanics and details are second to none. You know once you have something locked in under his tutelage, you're getting the submission.

The #1 spot in Toronto for No Gi Brazillian Jiu Jitsu.Whenever I'm in the area, this is my go to gym. Ian Freemantle is a phenomenal instructor and is easily one of the highest level black belts I've ever rolled with. Good hearted guy, absolutely hilarious and fun to be around.Great atmosphere on these mats. Positive energy from everyone. Lots of training partners, lots of belt levels. All killers on the mats. And everyone's hygienic and the mats are sanitary and spotless.I've been fortunate to have the opportunity attend classes, seminars, open mat and take private lessons at Toronto No Gi. My leglock game went next level after just one private lesson with Ian.If you ever have an opportunity to attend one of the seminars by Robert Drysdale, absolutely go because Rob is a World Champion on another level and his seminars have been invaluable to my Jiu Jitsu game and changed my life. They even offer a Gi class, haha! And Muay Thai as a bonus. Whether you're looking to start BJJ, you're looking to switch gyms, or you're just in the area for a drop in, this is the place to be in Toronto.

A bit far from me but that's not a knock on Ian or the school itself. He runs a tight ship and for a big man, moves and inverts like someone half his size. Really difficult grappler to deal with. I haven't taken formal classes here - only do open mats, but there are a ton of talented students. If you're in or near midtown, it's a prime school to go to. Aesthetically speaking, it's also the nicest gym in Toronto by far. I know that seems relatively unimportant but the lightning and the black mats (which are high quality) adds a ton of enjoyment to the rolling experience. A lifetime of rolling in gyms with cheap fluorescent lighting will do that to people. One final thing about Ian - there are an uncomfortably high amount of people in BJJ who while skilled at BJJ are toxic people otherwise, Ian isn't one of them and neither are his students. You go to Toronto No Gi to grapple and hang out with some cool people.

Great crowd that is highly skilled. Open mat after every session which is awesome. Very accessible with St. Clair subway station a 1 min walk away. There is also a Green P parking garage on the same block with cheap evening and weekend rates.

A fantastic facility, nice and clean with great people to train with. They can really cater to any skill level that walks through the door. Super welcoming/friendly and its clear they have a genuine passion for jujitsu. Times to train in both the afternoon and evening making it flexible to get a workout in no matter what your schedule. If Brazilian Jujitsu or Muay Thai has ever interested you, this is a great place to finally give it a try. You, like me, will be so glad you did.

I moved to this gym because of the location, but have stayed (after moving again) because of the welcoming atmosphere and high level grapplers. Ian is super knowledgeable and a talented grappler himself and the quality flows through the rest of the gym. It's a great place if you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with the necessary quality of instruction and training partners to push your own development.
