Donelda's Puffin Boat Tours
A great boat tour to the bird islands nearby. A total time of 2:30 minutes and a great experience. Loved watching the seals, puffins and also bold eagles.

You either reserve a spot online or you go to the small building and buy the tickets on the spot. You park on the side of the highway. It's really windy. It's a cloudy day with some sun, with 60% chance of rain. There are public washrooms back where the ferry is at (where you cross over to go to Englishtown), in a white building. You can take off the windows to get a better view of the world beyond the windows. It's hard to hear what Donelda, the tour guide is saying. Very loud boat sounds. Need to strain to hear what she is saying. She talks about how to use the lifejackets, history of the boat, history of a harbour (?), history of something (wasn't able to make it out). The body of water we're traveling in.The boat rocks back and forth, side to side.Talking about the different birds that live or can be found out in the ocean and area. Birds the prey on the Puffins. Aggressive birds. Mini penguin. Facts and description of what a Puffin is.She tells us a story of 2 bald eagles that hover over her head as she got the fish out to throw it into the water. She named the birds Mr. and Mrs. Charlie. She threw out 2 fishes and we watched the bald eagles fish up the fish. Seeing bald eagles fly around. There are a lot of bald eagles on the shoreline. Seeing the bald eagle catch the fish up close. Some seagulls are flying around and above us as well.Saw seals. Saw all sorts of birds and the Puffins. Great Blue Herons. Gulls. The predator of the Puffins.Donelda is informative and knowledgeable. Her husband is the captain of the boat and drives it. The boat ride to the rocky islands where we saw lots of different birds was great.$60 adult admission. Total admission cost is $189.75. We had 3 people. They only accept cash because they don't have the credit/debit machine. They said that they'll get one soon. Total time spent was 2 hrs and 30 mins.We enjoyed our boat ride to see the different birds. We recommend that you do the boat tour.

Loved, loved, loved this tour! We went to several places while on Cape Breton and this was by far my favourite. The lady guiding the tour works so incredibly hard, I hope she knows how much her grit and kindness is appreciated! We saw eagles, puffins, razorbills, cormorants, seals, and numerous other sea birds. We felt super safe on the boat and it was easy to board.

An absolute must. We're avid birders and seeing puffins was the reason we came out to Nova Scotia. Donelda's was far better than we could have imagined. Easy to find, easy parking on the side of the street, and a fine boat. Both the captain and Donelda are both incredibly nice and hospitable. I get seasick on a raft in a wave pool, but had no issues throughout the entire tour. We're going back again because we enjoyed it so much, can't recommend enough.

The excursion overall was great. The wife of the captain was very informative. Wish we could have seen the Puffins. They were small and fast. Most of my shots captured so little as I only brought my cellphone. With no high power lenses its hard to get any good shots close up. Lots of seals, along with a few eagles.

It was wonderful to see puffins, seals and other birds. The eagle put on a wonderful show for us as well! Donelda is a remarkable woman with a wealth of knowledge of the local birds in the area. Highly recommend the tour!

Trip Highlight! Our family of 5 enjoyed this tour very much. Donelda is very passionate about the history of the area and teaching others about the puffins, seals, gulls, heron, cormorant's and eagles. Learning their habbits and traits and how to tell the different species. Not only is this a puffin tour but a spectacular dispaly of nature in the ocean. We are really appreciative of the personal touches they added to tour by answering all questions about the tours as well as lobster fishing. Very well done.

Donelda’s boat took us out to a nearby island inhabited only by birds. Donelda was very knowledgeable in birds and made sure everyone was able to spot them when she pointed them out. We saw bald eagles, puffins, razorbills, seals, blue herrings, and many other shore birds during our tour.

This was an excellent tour. First time seeing Puffins. But you saw alot more. Multiple species of birds. And a large seal population. Very detailed information. Close up bald eagle feeding. Great hosts. A must see when you visit.
