We went to the original location in Markham and it was the best AYCE sushi place because they even had lamb chops included. This new location does not have that but the quality and selection is still one of the best. A little higher on the price side but still good value.

Went to Ichiban AYCE for dinner. It's $40 per person, and the food quality is medicore, and to be honest, that is what you expect from AYCE. Would I go back? maybe with a group, but I found WINd & Thai is a little better with more selections of dishes.

I came here on a Thursday afternoon, so I can't speak to how packed it is normally- but I live nearby and it seems to usually have capacity around dinner time.As you can see from my pictures, they have various price points for lunch/dinner and weekends/weekdays. But for those who cant, the price was about $50 after tax and tip for a weekday dinner.You order from a tablet- pretty typical of AYCE sushi restaurants, and the selling point is food is delivered to you by the waiter or a robot (which has been a growing trend of modern AYCE restaurants). Service is pretty good, but I'm not sure if that will be different during peak dinner service hours. They also have a dessert/soup/salad bar at the back.Now I know people ask about quality, but I'd assume most people go to AYCE sushi not for the quality, but for the quantity and variety. If you're looking for a premium sushi experience, go to a nicer restaurant that serves omakase or fresh seasonal ingredients.The variety is definitely up there and the quality of their sashimi is acceptable as well. As most AYCE sushi from what I've seen have pretty standard $40+ price points now, this place is pretty normal.All in all, if you're looking for AYCE sushi with AYCE sushi variety, AYCE sushi quality, AYCE sushi pricing, and everything along those lines, you'll get all of that here.

They don’t tell you about the 15 % mandatory service charge until after giving you your bill. Then they prompt you to tip on top of that! Transparency would be appreciated but was not received.Update: 2022-03-21 at 7:30PM.We decided to revisit for dinner and the manager came to our table mid service and told us that all the staff know who we are because of our negative Google review. Regarding the mandatory 15% service charge without stating it in advance. We were so shocked by her unprofessional manners and blatantly embarrassing us that we could not finish our dinner. She told us (party of two) that 15% service charge is mandatory. I have no problem tipping but the way they go about it is distasteful to say the least. I took a photo of the menu (see photos) where it clearly states that 15% service charge applies for a party over 6 people. Seeing that all the staff “knows who we are now” means that they can sabotage our meal and therefore will not be returning.

Quality and freshness 50/100. Service was great, friendly staff. Food comes out very fast. They have open appetizers/ soup and Icecream desserts bar. Restaurant itself are pretty cozy.

There is really nothing special about Ichiban, but it does meet my standards for AYCE sushi. I live nearby but have never had a chance to try it until now as I don't enjoy AYCE sushi as much as I used to. I went at 1PM when both the lunch and dinner menu are offered, and we went with the lunch as it was cheaper and still had a good selection of food. I believe it was around $30 per person. The lunch menu does not have sashimi, but has sushi and a good variety of rolls, noodles, appetizers. We ordered quite a few rolls (not my favorite, but my friends wanted them) and a lot of the appetizers. The sushi quality is actually good for an AYCE joint. The salmon tasted fresh but the size of the rice was a bit large. Some other dishes that I enjoyed and would recommend are the chicken skewers, fried beef noodle, and beef short ribs. We honestly did not even get that much sushi, mostly because there was no sashimi, but I enjoyed the cooked dishes.The service was okay, one thing I found odd was that they brought out the food very slow paced. Our first round of ordering came out over a span of around 30 minutes. When we thought we finished everything there was just more and more being brought out. We had no issues with finishing it, but we just didn't expect more because it was so slow and came out in like 6 different trips!One other thing I had an issue with was their self-service salad, soup and dessert bar. We were never told about this and completely missed this until the end. So we missed out on miso soup, some appetizers, and almost missed out on ice cream and dessert. The only reason we found out is because I asked if there was ice cream for dessert (as most AYCE places offer this) and they informed us there was a self-serve bar. I don't know why they wouldn't tell us, as clearly we missed it when we walked past, and we were seated in a different area where the bar was not visible. I do kind of feel like we didn't get our full money's worth because of missing this!Overall it was okay but I don't think I'll be back, mostly because I'm not the biggest AYCE eater anymore. But it is a decent option in the area, a bit pricey but the quality of food is up to par.
