Hello Wood Chip... Sharon and I want to thank you for the tour, your sharing stories of your life with your amazing hubby The Wood Chuck. He was certainly an interesting character, a great talent and I will be visiting again when touring the east coast Thank you.

What a find! We were just passing through Bouctouche area after visiting the sand dunes. This place is wild and the owner was a sweet lady. We came to know that her husband, Woodchuck had passed away last year and from his works it can assured that he was a true storyteller. I was so fascinated by this place that I did a bit of research and he was indeed a renouned carver and provincial treasure. Stop at this place!

This museum pays tribute to the late Charles Bernard (nickname:woodchuck) who was a native of Dieppe, New Brunswick. Charles was an exceptionally gifted artist who specialized in 3D wood carvings depicting Canadiana and local East coast history in particular. Every art student should visit this massive archive of truly awe inspiring works. Entry is by donation only and while visiting here it is also a superb treat to visit the adjacent antiques shop operated by Charles’s wife.

What an amazing place this is. Pat, my lovely wife and I, stopped in on this place just on passing. Caught it out of the corner of my eye and since traffic was light, I was able to slow down and pull in with no problem. Parking can be tight but even if we had to park blocks away it was worth it.Unfortunately Charles Bernard (the Woodchuck") has passed but his wife Cheryl ("Woodchip") still runs the place. Cheryl alone is a treasure and we can only imagine what a terrific duo they must have been when together.Pat and I were fortunate to have hit this place early in the tourist season and Cheryl seemed to enjoy showing us around and graciously talking to us about a few of the many carvings. She did not mind answering all of the many questions I had about this place. What originally caught my attention was the appearance of a house seemingly splitting a large ship in half through some type of mystical evolution. Imagine my surprise to learn that Charles had built the entire building and ship from scratch. We were told that the ships pretty mascot was the first part of this ship that Bernard had built. From there everything grew from his vast imagination. What a treasure this place is. He has surely left a peace of himself behind in the many originally carvings we have had the honor of viewing. Lucky are the few who've been able to purchase any his special carvings. Someday
